Writing As A Form Of Therapy

Writing As A Form Of Therapy

Hi all,

I have found throughout the course of my life that writing has been a constant companion to me. It has provided me with a way to vent my frustrations, to grapple with the eternal verities of life that confound and delight me, to explore ideas and concepts, and to try to put into words the often chaotic moods and thoughts that result from having a mind that's a little bit odd...

I have written lots of poems, especially in the last 3 or 4 years, dealing with depression and bipolar. They help me to process and understand some of the things that are happening in this twisted little noodle of mine. As such, writing has become one of my main forms of therapy.

One of the best things that I find about writing is that it can act as a kind of mood diary. I can read things that I had previously written, and it will quite often map out where I was at during the time of writing. The words I spread across the page act as signposts of my progress, too. As my self knowledge increases and my life journey progresses, I find that it affects how I write and what I write...

Often, we do not see the thousands of tiny little changes to our selves that our life experiences cause over the years. It can be very helpful to re-read old writings, in order to see how far we have come, what we have improved, where we have fallen back into old harmful habits, and the things that we have learned.

The language that we use in our writings and in our thoughts and in our speech is very important. It can reveal a lot about our selves, our states of mind, and our moods...

That language, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I believe that we attract certain kinds of people around us, and create (or at least influence) life situations based on our choice of language. It helps define who we are as a person.

Negative thinking, self-deprecation, self-hatred, these sorts of dangerous life traps are often revealed in our choice of words. So too are the positive things. It all starts with a glass. How we describe the glass and the quantity and quality of its contents, that's where language comes into it, and it can shape our very lives and the lives of those around us.

Writing... it is my solace and my main tool of self-analysis. It is my favourite form of therapy...

Landless

A language on TV

I cannot see its vision

it sounds foreign

and I do not understand.

It is an aboriginal tongue

I realise

I am the alien

though born to this land.

(poem written here in real time)

Love that poem Landless @Mazarita

What I always say is "We belong to her, not she to us. We're lucky if we get to have custody."

@eth, yes, we belong to her.

I'd really like too get life right. Because before i know it. It'll be over. Life is vein. Life is egoistic. And life is narcissistic. Or maybe it's just me......

I don't think a little happiness is to much to ask for. I don't think life should involve so much suffering either. Not that it really matters in the end.

Another day begins. And the sun will decide to rise again. And the clouds will choose to float on bye. And the grass will inevitably grow some more.

My life in this very moment. On this cold dawn. Is destined to end. As i am destined to spend. An eternity of peace with the Creator of all things.

I no longer fear the evil that is within. As i know. I'm no more then helpless against the wind. All things in a moment. Happen in the blink of an eye.

Just as the clouds float on bye. And the sun is destined to rise. And as the moon shall light up the night sky once more. My journey is just beginning.

I've pondered upon. No more then i need to. Which has all been for. A desperate attempt. To become enlightened. Against the darkness of life.

What more do i need to know? To believe that suffering. Is never ending. And that i am never ever going to be alone? Love, peace and joy to all.

Lovely words, @Mazarita.

And @eth... feeling the love.

Hugs to you both on this night of contemplation and... whatever the wind doth stir...

There is no mother other than Mother Earth, who mothered all mothers through burgeon and dearth...

Even us white fellers understand mobs and their deep connections to the earth...

I get closer to the Earth that I love every day, with all the dust and dirt and mud under my fingernails, as testament to the green and multicoloured wonders that arise from the ground and reach to worship the sun that beats down (combined with lots of lugging of water to make sure the sun that beats down doesn't beat the plant into the ground)...

I'm getting slimline tanks delivered next week... to be on the practical side of the connection with Gaiya or however one spells the name of our connection to the earth upon which and within which we live...

We haven't had rain since early June here... not a drop... the heavy clay soils in our particular river valley have done their best to hold on to the moisture like a sponge through the dry, but the region is not used to such a prolonged drought without a drop of rain... that's why I am getting into listening to the rhythms of our Mother Earth, and gathering the bounty of her water when I can as it rains, so that I can dole it out to our garden through drip irrigation and raised wicking beds when it's increasingly hotter and drier... our times they are a'changin', wasn't that what Dylan sang?

Well, Mother Earth is a reality that simple rhetoric and human arrogance cannot ignore... mumma gotta lotta weight to be throwin' round when her temper's up... and them long dry spells, they really do hurt too...

Our job is to try and build a happy medium through our skills as ingenious tool-wielding monkeys... scale the peaks and plumb the valleys... ease the peaks and troughs of an increasingly peaky and troughy world weather dynamic... hahaha... that is my gardening Yoda talk out of the way... too zen for zen sometimes...

I hear the rustling of cutlery and plates, that suggests my sweet Lovely Partner is in the process of delivering another degustatory delight... nom nom nom... I must away and be a hedonist for a while... me missus is a cook with love in her heart...

Hugs and happy vibes beaming to you all... I will try and return later... you know... after nommies...

I have observed life on many different levels in my own life as a philosopher, a thinker, an over-thinker (ha...), a zen mofo, a Krishnamurti-fuelled self evolutionist...

I come to this simple truth... it's all about the nommies... we love our nommies... nom nom nom...

My Lovely Partner and I recently had a rescue puppy join our smally family, expanding it from 2 to 3... a fur baby (sigh... I regret to inform I am smitten...)... a lovely little Jack Russell Foxy cross (and I reckon a hint of Chihuahua or however you spell that shaking dog with the slightly bulgy but still cute eyes)... she's 6 years old, hasn't barked once, and only grunts like a little pig... which is kind of very fitting, as the original owners caller her 'Piglet'...

She's really come out of her shell in the last little bit... being a rescue dog, you never know what you are going to get, but the mob we got her from, they're tight... they know their dog types, and how to match them to the right people...

So... here was my Lovely Partner and I, and number one on our list of wants for a dog? "Love Muffin"...

Oh dear... yeah... I know... but we ended up with a lap warmer that is loving the love, and she's opening up and showing her character as she feels comfortable here in this loving environment at home...

Ah, the therapeutic benefits of having pets... whether it's dogs or cats or something more exotic... pets help remind us about the whole natural order of things... this is one blue green red marble floating through space... hahaha... our mom may be asking us to pick our dirty clothes up off our floor with these storms and droughts and stuff, but through our natural bonds between humans and plants and humans and animals, growing and creating and nurturing and harvesting and improving... this is the key to life, I think... it is indeed so very simple after all...

Spock said it... live long and prosper... hahaha...

Hugs and happy vibes beaming to you all... 🙂

I feel your pain, and I feel your enlightenment, for that is a journey that never ends... in baby steps, in jolting leaps, we make this personal evolution... I call it the Self Evolution Revolution... it's what needs to happen for us all to heal and become better people... deal with our "shite" and figure out how to work our own lives out, because this stuff didn't come with an instruction manual... then we can build up the resilience to be useful to ourselves in our own lives...

That's an important step... a survival step... take charge of our own care... that's a biggie when you've been as low as me, and I know peeps who've been lots lower...

You build yourself up to the point where, even when you're hurting, you can give back...

Like all the peeps do on here... I love the love... thank you all for being you... hugs and happy vibes beaming to all... 🙂

I went and sussed out my local GP about mental health services in case things head south for me...

Moving into a rural area, I wanted to get a feel for the availability of services...

Hahaha...

He said... dude... we're rural... we're stretched to the max... we don't even have mental health plan out here... there's no psychs... unless you got a nice private plan, you're on your own until you hit the emergency ward and I pump you full of a cocktail of whatever drugs it takes to calm you down and make you safe...

This shit is real, peeps...

There ain't a lotta support, except for these little support networks we make amongst ourselves...

Huggles, peeps...

Every time I write 'Huggles', my autocorrect wants to say 'Hugglescote'... I don't even know wtf that is...

Stay safe, my lovelies, no matter what life throws at you...
