Decluttering and home maintenance

Decluttering and home maintenance

When MI crisis happens, keeping house can take low priority. But having a messy house can further dent what is often an already low self esteem. Build up of grime follows and rodents have a field day in inaccessible places.

Getting that 2 minute job done (that has been annoying you for years) can lift ones spirit.

I have slowly been decluttering and tidying up our house. The progress made thus far has been achieved primarily by persistently dealing with one item a day.

What has often kept me going has been the encouragement from others @Faith-and-Hope, @Smc @Determined @Shaz51

This tip passed on to me today. Hang all your clothes in the wardrobe with the hanger back to front. As you wear them, return them with the hanger the right way round. In 6-12 months review all items that remain on back to front hangers with a view to donating/selling them.

@Smc

Decluttering is not ALWAYS the right thing.

Many churches have sensitive and deep understandings of ways to approach and deal with grief. Even new organisations like Support after Suicide have a church basis. So many social conscience based organisations have evolved through people in churches trying to do the best in the times and places they lived. I try and hold space for the good and bad in organised religion.

Hearing you @Smc and @Appleblossom, I'm a long way off organising 'stuff' enough to pull together into a big project but hope to v Christmas. Much healing in decluttering enough where we're not distracted from the 'REAL' stuff only WE can give honour to xox

@Former-Member, I'd love to get to the point here where the junk-stuff is out of the way so that the lovely stuff and the "memory holders" we have can be better seen and used. 🙂

I've got lots of nice storage tins and boxes, vintage suitcases etc. but too many of the bits and pieces are stored in carboard boxes instead... One of my current projects is moving all our photo envelopes into one of the smaller suitcases, both as an attractive and orderly way to store them, and it means if we have an emergency, they're all in one easy to grab place.

@Appleblossom, churches used to be the traditional place to grieve, individually or together. Sometimes they still are. It hasn't always and in every place handled well, but that's part of why we're doing this study, to learn how to better support each other, and the wider community. xx

We've got this book on our shelves- a really sweet story about an old man who stores his memories, both happy and sad, in beautiful bottles, as if they were perfume...

New dishwasher installed this week for darling.

Old one taken to the tip this morning.

Additional trailer load of green waste taken to tip topped off with 1/2 load of cardboard that I was going to mulch. Darling and FIL will be pleased to see that gone.

Quick turnaround on replaced white goods = yay @Determined Dare I ask about the old saucepans?

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Old saucepans seem to have disappeared @Former-Member so guessing darling has taken them to the op shop 😊

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

I know she had a bit of a clean up because last weekend I found some items in the shed I thought had been stolen from the front of the house.

Items that if I had taken down to the shed would have been in the boat so confident it was not me lol.
