depressed or lazy

depressed or lazy

Hi sane family, Do you ever wonder how hard to push yourself? How much to 'be kind' to yourself? 'Where 'self compassion' srarts & finishes etc.
I have struggled with depression anxiety most my life and ebb back & forth in functioning. It really bugs me that i can't get my house in order. Staying focused is my biggest problem (going from room to room forgetting where i started) and decision making with each item (chuck it? keep it? where to put it? where do i keep its others? I can't remember? where can i put it that i'll remember? 😕 it? What if i chuck it & end up REALLY needing it later etc etc). I've had the motivation this last 3 days but it looks worse, feels like I'm not getting far & i haven't even got to my girls room.
Do i try have a garage sale or is that beyond me theze days (re huge orgsnisational skills required?
My memory is so shot, even got lost in familiar places twice last year - thought i was getting early dementia but dr says its stress & BPD.
Anyway, maybe some of you OCD guys can give some tips.
This old house is too much for me now (especially the roof & garden) so i gotta clear out to move on before i slowly die chasing my tail alone.
Is this common with depression (to dither so)? And how do i handle it? I can't access ANY practical help. I have thoughts images of torchingTheLot i don't know how else to i'm escape it. I dream of running away in a Winnebago & never coming back.
Can anyone figure out whats going on with me. Everyone else i know keep their homes so much better. Am i being hard on myself or should i keep pushing?

Good Morning @Former-Member

A very good friend introduced me to the ice pack idea. I'd always used hot packs up until then....but the ice pack was magical and gave me extraordinary relief. At the time it was for back pain but when I developed sciatica I gave it a 'go'. Wow! is all I can say. I've found the ice pack to be so superior for pain relief.

Have a really good Saturday

Re: depressed or lazy

I have used both in the past but mostly that kind of pain is under control and I am on management regime.

The reason for the ice being so good is that is both numbing and stops swelling .. ya just gotta do .. what ya gotta do.

I often practise recorder lying down on the bed to make it easy for my neck ... but in a day I may be out walking and doing stretch exercises on the train ... the world is my gym

What an amazing instrument the recorder is. Certainly to play it professionally is a lot of very concentrated and intensive practise. I really love the instrument. Sadly I haven't really given the much attention in the last four years with the exception of ioling the every 6 months. That's a reminder to get the out again and start putting in the hours once more. The trouble with practising is thst I become so immersed in attaing the perfection I seek that I neeed to rem7nd myself to stop by setting an alarm to stop or I'll still be beavering away at 4am.

When I was working full time as a professional I even managed to train my hubby and children to sleepthrough piccolo practise unti 3 or 4am! I was playin in the pit for Mozart's The Magic Flute at the time. Music is a wonderful escape from the torment of the mind.

For pain relief I can't endorse ice packs highly enough.

My apologies @Former-Member,

I've managed to swing this discussion of topic, although good pain relief does help to tavle all the things that need to be done in the house a lot easier. It also tends to alleviate some of the pain associated depression.

Hop you've had a good day.

Re: depressed or lazy

Playing recorder is my latest pain distraction. Not a professional. Started it 2 years ago. Wow @Kurra you are much more serious player than me. Just started to look at Hotteterre's trait & prelude in F major.

My mother used to go on about lying in bed and laziness etc mainly about my brother, but never acknowledged anyone's work or effort. She is gone now RIP. I kind of thought that my bizarre life was related to the thread title in that when I am resting my neck lying in bed, sometimes I use my time to practise .. and I am also giving my eyes a rest as I do it from memory when in bed .. but I guess I am exercising the brain ... while I tootle ..

We have to listen to our bodies otherwise they pack up.

Hi @Former-Member how are you going?

Re: depressed or lazy

Apologies for the many typos in my last couple of posts. Obviously if I'm replying late at night I should use my laptop rather than a tablet.

@Appleblossom

Hotteterre is wonderful music. I mostly played Hotteterre on baroque flute.

If you live in Vic google the Victorian Recorder Guild. You will find a lot of interesting people there, teachers, fabulous resources and activities.

Have a great day!

Re: depressed or lazy

Thanks @Kurra I am just starting to link in with recorder guilds. Wow a baroque flute .. i just have factory machined alto which my teacher cant stand because of its lousy tuning. Going to a Bundanoon weekend soon. Am liking the subtleties of a wind instrument and the gentleness of consort music.

Once a piano teacher cracked a joke about the keys getting ... depressed.

Hope you are not too bad @Former-Member I try and go with my own energy in the cleaning tidying endeavour. When I am up to it I swoop through and clean cobwebs etc, but it can be a HUGE job sorting and making all those little decisions. I still have piles of papers and a bit of music to sift through ... in time.

cheers Apple

@Appleblossom

The Bundanoon weekend is incredibly tempting. Sadly I'm rostered to work that weekend.

Aulos baroque instruments tend to be well tuned. When testing a recorder try out the low G and push it a bit. If it growls a bit it's not a good instrument.

Enjoy the weekend!
