Hi sane family, Do you ever wonder how hard to push yourself? How much to 'be kind' to yourself? 'Where 'self compassion' srarts & finishes etc. I have struggled with depression anxiety most my life and ebb back & forth in functioning. It really bugs me that i can't get my house in order. Staying focused is my biggest problem (going from room to room forgetting where i started) and decision making with each item (chuck it? keep it? where to put it? where do i keep its others? I can't remember? where can i put it that i'll remember? 😕 it? What if i chuck it & end up REALLY needing it later etc etc). I've had the motivation this last 3 days but it looks worse, feels like I'm not getting far & i haven't even got to my girls room. Do i try have a garage sale or is that beyond me theze days (re huge orgsnisational skills required? My memory is so shot, even got lost in familiar places twice last year - thought i was getting early dementia but dr says its stress & BPD. Anyway, maybe some of you OCD guys can give some tips. This old house is too much for me now (especially the roof & garden) so i gotta clear out to move on before i slowly die chasing my tail alone. Is this common with depression (to dither so)? And how do i handle it? I can't access ANY practical help. I have thoughts images of torchingTheLot i don't know how else to i'm escape it. I dream of running away in a Winnebago & never coming back. Can anyone figure out whats going on with me. Everyone else i know keep their homes so much better. Am i being hard on myself or should i keep pushing?
Way to go @NegativeNancy, hope you are feeling a little bit better today
That is great advice @JoJo73, I need to do more of it as my hubby doesn`t like too much stuff around , it makes him anxious and closed in
How are you @JoJo73, @Former-Member

Re: depressed or lazy
Hello everyone,
I've found this a very interesting discussion and I've certainly picked up some excellent tips that I suspect I will find very useful.
It reminded me of a film clip that I saw about bipolar when I was assisting with a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course. Without going in to all the details of the clip it was about a chappy who was behaving rather strangely. A neighbour who had done MHFA knocked on his door to see if he was OK. When he answered the door she was shocked to see the state of his home which was a real mess. It went on to explain that conditions like depression and bipolar make ordinary every day things difficult to do to the extent that even starting to clean up becomes overwhelming.
At that point I quietly went outside so I could burst in to tears. It was such a relief all I could do was cry. I had always thought I was a very messy, extremely lazy and dirty person and I was so ashamed about the state of my home. This can still happen occasionally but now I simply realise it's just another sign of my mood state and not a reflection on me as a person.

Re: depressed or lazy
Apart from a massive headache and an awful cold I'm not too bad. I'm less resilient when I'm physically unwell but for now I'm just ignoring the blips and doing as much as I can to get back to work. I hope you're travelling well. Thanks for asking

Re: depressed or lazy
Hi.guys, glad you like this thread, its helped me too, like you @Kurra, i have been ashamed of myself because of the state of my home, beat myself up over it.. & get anxious & embarrassed if anyone visits & think they (small town) gossip about it. I don't know anyone but my mum quite so disorganised at home. The story you mentioned - poor fella not coping at home also gave me tears. Its not us its the disease, its only recently i realise, like my mum, its a reflection of mind/mood dysfunction. I'm starting with a new psych sessions primarily to deal with this issue, so i can move closer to supports. Feel so trapped, need help but there isn't any so hoping therapy will help strengthen some inner resources. This week is harder cause i put my back out - bad sciatica 😞 Trying to make myself sort at least one box (drawer or cupboard) a day, but even that slips. Try again tomorrow, one day at a time. Really enjoy the company here. Thanks guys

Re: depressed or lazy
Hi @Shaz51 My week has been very quiet since I've been home all week. I'm improving. Now I'm only nursing a much less severe headache.
I found exercising helpful for my sciatica but the nights were hell. At least it's gone away for the time being.
Take care Hugzzz

Re: depressed or lazy
@Shaz51,
An ice pack seemed to give relief. I would leave it at the most painful spot for as long as I could. Thst often alloed me to get to sleep.

Re: depressed or lazy
@shaz, @Kurra, Hi guys, nice to see you here too. Actually, its really nice to check my phone & find someone's talking to me I know its still dark outside but i actually woke up bright as a button after what feels like the best sleep in a very long time. Wow. Was a bit disorientated at first but standing up pain is grounding. The dog was desperate to go out for a pee so think I've been out for 10hrs?? Probably pain medication Dr put me on but maybe also prayer as i put out a prayer request yesterday.for the sciatica & melancholy. Never quite know if its 'real' or i'm going into a 'high' manic phase or dissociating. Hope its real. REST & HEAT PACKS on the sacro iliac joint (lower back) is helping me. And also on any other muscles that aching or in spasm. Not sure i could handle ice packs shaz - your brave. Bit chilly in the mornings now. Gonna go make lovely hot cup of EB tea 🙂
