Not coping with severe depression

Not coping with severe depression

Hello to all the beautiful people who contribute on these forums. I am a male aged 45 who has been battling with depression for several years. I have attempted suicide three times in the past and hospitalised on one occasion. My depression has been manageable with medication until a few months ago when the only close friend I had in my life passed away. I'm just not coping with being single, lonely and dealing with the death of my dear friend. I have a shy personality which makes it virtually impossible to meet females and build friendships. I'm also low on confidence and self esteem and believe I'm not good enough to be considered for a relationship. I have been on my own for my entire life and Don't know how much longer I can last being on my own and lonely. It's the first time I have shared my personal pain and suffering with anyone as I would find it too embarrassing and humiliating discussing it with a psychologist in person.

@Jayneinpain lol . you definitely know more french than me as I had to do a quick search for the translation. I recall participating in Italian classes as well during the early years of high school. I bet my my pronunciation is a lot worse than yours.

I honestly don't think you are anywhere near being too old to relive the days you referred to in your previous message. It might be worthwhile trying the social event when you are up for it. You just never know when you are going to meet someone. Sometimes it's only a matter of being at the right place at the right time. It's been a while since I socialised so really had to think for your question. I think for me the key ingredient is having the right companion. Once you have that then most things vecbec enjoyable. I do enjoy going out for dinner, engaging in good conversation, watching a movie and falling asleep in the arm's of someone you love as ideal ways to spend a night.

Oh @Leventia, your idea of an ideal night gave me mixed emotions - somewhere between a swoon and a moan of delight.

It has been a very long time.

It's been a while for me as well since I enjoyed those things @Jayneinpain . It's the reason why I'm craving to experience them again.

I hope you find that someone special @Leventia. Someone who makes your heart stir and skip a beat when they smile at you. Someone who understands you, even without words. Someone who will trust you with their heart. Someone who can hold you and be your shoulder when needed. Someone who is always proud to be with you. Someone who makes you smile, even when you sleep.

@Jayneinpain thank you so much. If that ever happens I will be the happiest man alive. Equally you deserve to have that special someone in your life as well. The kind of person who will make you feel as though you are the most important person in a room full of people.
