Shadows in the darkness

Shadows in the darkness

I was recently admitted involuntarily to hospital. the psychiatrist I saw said I could either take meds or go to hospital. I have not been on meds for almost 2yrs. I told her I am not taking meds as It will give 'them' easier access to poison me. 'They' have poisoned me in the past which is what led me to go off them 3yrs ago and ended up, 4 months later, being admitted to mhu for 8 months. During that stay I was trialled on many meds and took them willingly. A month after I was discharged I stopped taking them as the spirit told me 'you know what they're doing, you know they are going to hurt you'. So I stopped all meds cold turkey with no side effects, that I can remember, and was ok, I thought. I was put in hospital for a few days here and there but think my refusal of meds and my ability to hide what was going on made them unable to legally medicate me. This most recent admission, which was only short, had me very fearful and anxious. The psychiatrist wanted me to stay another few days to 'dry out' from my codeine and alcohol addiction but I refused as I knew they were trying to torment me to lose my cool so they had reason to 'medicate' poison me. I was discharged as I kept my mouth shut and he had no reason, legally, to keep me.
The last hour or so I have been hammered by the spirit and whispering and really just want it to stop. In the past meds have helped but I can't risk 'them' poisoning me. 99% of the time I believe I do not need or want meds and it would be to risky to even try, but in this very moment maybe the Drs are right and there is something wrong. I feel like the shadows are putting these thoughts in my head to make me think I am 'sick' so I take meds so they can poison me, that these are not my actual thoughts. But what if they are. I see my regular psychiatrist in a wk and she has been on holidays since November and does not yet know about my recent admission to mhu. She always pushes for meds and I always refuse and she knows why I refuse.
I don't really know the point of this message but I am just overwhelmed at the moment and I'm sure in a few hours I will read this and think how could I think I am actually 'sick'.
Maybe it'll be good just to get it out and not keep it to myself.
Thanks for listening.

Hi @Shadow

Sounds like a really difficult and confusing situation to be living in 😞 I really do hope that the spirit and whispering does fade or be a bit quieter for a minute. Do you have some things you can do to distract you from listening to them?

I'm glad your regular psychiatrist will be back soon, it sounds as though she listens to you and you have a good relationship?

Just wanted to say hi and welcome to the forums, and that there are people who care and listen here on the forums,

look after yourself,

LJ

Hi @Shadow,

It sounds confusing for you at the moment. To add to @Former-Member's comments I hope that the shadow and whispering quieten down for you. May I ask how long they have been bothering you?

You mentioned in the past medications have worked. I understand that you're fearful of being poisoned, but I am wondering if you can tell me about the time they worked?

I'm glad to hear that you're psychiatrist is back next week. Do you trust him/her?

Re: Shadows in the darkness

Thanks for responding. I'm going for a long walk to help distract, it helps sometimes but sometimes makes things worse and more intense because I worry about being followed, it is worth a try though. In the past meds have almost stopped the spirit and whispering but I feel as though the meds are just distracting me from what they tell me to do and if I am on them I might miss some important information. It's a tough situation and at times I feel they should've chosen someone else because I am not capable. The psychiatrist I see next week is hard to talk to. I think there is a bit of a language barrier and she does not fully understand what I say because of that. It is through a community mh service so there is not a lot of options for picking and choosing who you'd like to speak to.

Re: Shadows in the darkness

I can't help but feel like I am worthless. That I am forced to save others as a selfless act. I know that others will understand and I have many writings to prove that I/we are right. My brain is overrun and tired and I feel like it needs a break. As much as I drink and take codeine I feel I have no relief. Drinking sometimes makes the spirits and shadows worse/louder, but If I don't listen they could say something that I am meant to know/ act on. It's so hard and overwhelming right now and this depression has lasted for over a month now and I can feel my body being run down, fatigue, infections, nausea, tiredness, and I am over feeling this way. Seriously, what do I do? Be honest with my psychiatrist and risk being forcibly treated or made to believe I am 'sick' and just take meds and everything will be better. What if it's not? What if 'they' do poison me. I don't expect a simple solution but I wish for an end to this situation. Life is not meant to be easy but it's also not meant to be lived in constant turmoil and indecision. I am sorry for this rant but have no where else to turn at this time. This forum is a savior to those that cannot articulate in person and I thank in advance those who respond and have responded.

Re: Shadows in the darkness

Hi @Shadow ,
I'm sorry to read you're not doing so well.

From what I can understand, the only thing that has worked before, is medication - is that right?

Has anything else helped in the past? How was your long walk?

Are you seeing any other professionals, like a psychologist or community support person?

I think many of us worry about being labelled 'sick' or 'weak' if we take medication for our mental health, which is sad, because we don't think that way when it's for our physical health. Maybe you could look at it as a preventative?

Re: Shadows in the darkness

Hi @Shadow

I like long walks and even better if they are in good places.

I also am resistant to taking meds, so understand being torn about it. at the moment I am on more than I want, but will deal with that later as things at home stabilise.

I hope you get value from the forums. Welcome

Re: Shadows in the darkness

I guess mess have helped but I cannot take them. I stopped seeing a psychologist last year because I told him he wasn't safe from the shadows, that they would get to him to get information from him and I thought to keep him safe I had to not see him. So at the moment I don't talk to anyone. The walk I went on was ok, helped enough at the time.

Hi @Shadow

I'm really dissapointed that you can't take them. You deserve to have peace and be well.

It can be hard work, but it's worth it.

Do you have friends or family you feel comfortable spending time with?

Re: Shadows in the darkness

its all too much at the moment, I'm finding it hard to pretend everything's ok so I avoid people as much as I can. It's getting really hard

Re: Shadows in the darkness

Hi @Shadow

I know you've tried to use some of your distraction stuff in the last week, is there anything that might help you now? if nothing is working is there someone you can phone for some support, or be with. Even if you don't feel like socialising is there someone who you feel comfortable enough just to 'be with'? or if you're not feeling safe please go tot he hospital or phone for help, you do deserve to be safe and cared for. Sometimes i think we need to let it be known that we're not ok, keeping that mask up and pretending takes a lot of energy just on its own, and we dont get the help we need if everyone thinks we're ok.

here hoping that you can reach out to someone and that things start getting better for you soon,

lj
