Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

I think it gets really hard when it becomes relentless @Former-Member and you can't get a break from the thoughts of wanting it to be over. I have had a run of a few weeks without much respite from SI. Do you have yoga or something to look forward to tomorrow? For me, I can only do jigsaw puzzles on my iPad and when that stops working I need to contact lifeline or a crisis line or sometimes call out on here too to try to distract.

Yeah, I have hot vinyasa yoga to look forward to tomorrow - I didn't feel like going today, but did & I'm glad - I don't feel like going tomorrow, but I will. I am having a 2nd bout of oral surgery on Wednesday, so I know I need to get to yoga while I can so to speak - the 1st surgery - 2 wisdom teeth out - had me out of it for a week & then I had a complication, so I was not able to go for about 2.5 weeks (although I went once & realised I was still too unwell & went back to the dental clinic)

Thank you @Former-Member & @Shaz51....

Also nothing good on tv to relax/distract with....

Next pay I'm buying the new season of Greys Anatomy - I know it isn't a popular show anymore, but I like it & it really helps me to distract....

Anna

@Former-Member I think what helps me the most on here is when people remind me that it will pass. You have had a few curve balls lately with the dentist work as well. Hopefully once this is over you will relax a little more I'm avoiding my dentist even though he is a really nice man. Great job on getting to Yoga today, I'm sure you'll feel better for it when you go tomorrow. That's great you have something like greys anatomy to help settle you too. i used to watch it many years ago now. I haven't watched TV for over three years now. I know you've been cutting back medication which is a huge and complicated process by the sounds of it. I think you are keeping very strong with this and getting back into yoga. I really hope that you can calm tonight and find some peace. best wishes Anna

Thanks @Former-Member....

The dental surgeon isn't making me paranoid - just very stressed & anxious - I had a frozen panic attack during the last surgery - things people say or don't say & how they act are making me paranoid... My partner just said I'm taking things too seriously in relation to comments on a facebook post that I replied to - I just feel like that is who I am & the comments were judgemental - then I said something else to him (I forget now - I'm exhausted, anxious, tired, stressed) & he said I was too serious - "what is wrong" - "I don't know, probalby just anxious about surgery & that stress is making me paranoid"

Anyhow, thank you a lot for your messages of support tonight - I'm going to try to sleep now or at least shut down the computer & just lay & bed & worry 😕

Hi @Former-Member,

Last night about half an hour after I wrote my post I edited out that sentence about the dentist and paranoia. At the time it was my way of trying to bring some light hearted humour into the post but then I realised that if I was feeling how you were I would probably miss the humour and feel like that comment minimised my MI and so I deleted it. I honestly never meant to minimise what you experience with the paranoia. I have only experienced something like that once before in relation to fear of abandonment where I felt I had become paranoid but I dont know if that is anything like what you experience. I'm sorry if that comment hurt or frustrated you further.

I hope you get to yoga today and feel a bit better. Wishing you the best of luck with the dental work this week. 💜🤗💐
