Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all...

I called my psychistrist & psychologist today... both helped. Just not enough...

I've had a huge rollarcoaster of emotions day & am too physically exhausted to explain it all....

We woke up at 3:30am, so my partner could go cycling with a guy he met through a Brisbane vegan cyclist group (my partner did make one on fb for toowoomba & about 15 people have joined, but no one has organised rides with him - in comparison the Brisbane group has about 300 members I think) Anyhow, I agreed to this yesterday, because I am always worried that he is not doing enough to look after his own mental health - because even people without mental illness diagnosis need to & especially if they are a carer - especially if they are a carer for mental ill health... anyhow I'm too tired to explain the rollercoaster of the day, but basically my mum is triggering me badly to feel suicidal - I'm not sure what to do about her - how & if I can cope with her in my life - people are stressful everywhere - even shop assistants when you are window shopping can make you paranoid - face on social interaction is over stimulating even when the people understand mental illness - it is hard to drive a car when you are very tired even if you mostly sleep on the 1.5 hour drive & then for an hour in the car, because if you drive then you will have an accident or walk along the river like you planned to - you will just simply fall over.... food is needed or you can't think or walk or drive safely, but then the exhaustion makes you lose your appetite & you forget that lunch time is well past due & even when you drive well a car can nearly t-bone you & that can make you burst out into tears, because at points in life everything is just too much stress in your stress bucket... good things can happen, bad things can happen - it can all be too much - my stress bucket is overflowing - I can't use my yoga hole in the bucket to let out some water stress... so I'm struggling - partner is sleeping at the moment - he brought pasta to make for dinner - hopefully he wakes up soon, as my appetite ofr more my stomach is telling me to eat.. Thanks for reading my rambling mess... too tired to do spellcheck...

Darling Anna,

I read your message.

This is not your fault.

You are really good caring for your partner's wellbeing.

I had a lot of difficulty with being aware of the passing of time. Sometimes it was so slow and others too fast.

Re your mother, I was also a bit put off by an aunt who was involved in pyramid selling. Its ok to make your own food and financial choices. However it was a big thing for many women as a source of income, just not stuff that I could stomach. We need to listen to our gut, but then loook around and check whether it is viable and sustainable.

It is tricky with driving too.

Take care @Former-Member

Is'nt @Appleblossom clever.

Im listening to William Byrd (1540/1543?-1623), Mass for Five Voices (complete). The Tallis Scholars with earplugs on........

i so wish that psychologists/psychiatraists/ANYONE had the answers/cures that we long for..need.

Such an early start, no wonder you're exhausted! I was wondering as you were writing about your mum whether you might be able to just put that aside for a week or so. Take a break, no communication or anything for a week or two but put off making any long term decision until things a bit calmer for you. seems like a lot of stress is cmoing from her/the relationship that you don't need.

im not having a great day and seriously struggling today too, so i cant think well enough to give you much of a response, sorry. but i am here listening and caring and wishing that someone had things to say that helped more

My difficulties with time passing were often a great anxiety. I managed it a bit with having a clock next to me while I was teaching .. so I wouldnt get "carried away". I needed to monitor time to be professional, but not teaching much anymore.

I dont know about "clever". @PeppiPatty It was usually used as a put down in my family. They said it about my father and about me .. as if it meant that I was like him, or, not all the other things I was supposed to be ... like hard working, or beautiful, or loving or caring ... it was never said with appreciation.

Lovesinging the Byrd. The style is most calming for me. We sang Palestrina and Victoria yesterday at church. The Tallis scholars were so blended and coherent and tight. Still trying to get my airwaves claimed in the house ... so dont listen to enough music from CDs or radio.

What kind of music do you like @Former-Member?

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi @Appleblossom....

I mainly like pop music, some soft rock - sorry I don't feel I have very refined taste - I do like some classical - like the piano guys & I have two cds of classical music for cardio & I like Bach to help me when I'm studying - I'm not a big music person - often health professionals & just anyone will tell you to listen to music to help calm you - it doesn't calm me - I enjoy music when I'm feeling okay - otherwise it is just more over stimulation...

I think I understand what you have/had trouble with with "time passing" but I'm not sure how it relates to me.. sorry...

I think I can understandwhy you don't like being called "clever" - I am so over health professionals telling me I am "smart" - I just feel like screaming yes I know I can get good grades that isn't helping me much is it?

@Former-Member I'm sorry you are struggling - I really have zero in my tank to give to anyone, so even that you wrote a message means a lot - I haven't replied to her last message - I'm going to try to limit contact - I do do it for about a week sometimes, but then I feel crappy because I haven't messaged my mum for a week & she hasn't even asked how I am. I'm 34, but still wish I had a mum & dad who truely understand me & know who I am... but I don't - It's like I need to start a mantra in my head "my mum is stupid" @Appleblossom prymiad/multi level only make very few money - most lose money - but think they are getting some money back - vulnerable people get sucked in - I'm glad you didn't

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all.. .

Still exhausted after sleep... Feeling like my partner, his mum, definitely my family really don't care... Just some warped sense of obligation not to feel responsible for a person ending their life. Feel alone... Psychiatrist & psychologist are paid to care....

I hope others are feeling much better & connected...

Ahimsa, Namaste,

Anna

Hugs @Former-Member I believe that your partner genuinely cares for you. You've given so many reasons for me to believe that this. You have a deep relationship with him. Try to challenge some of those thoughts
