Anger turned inward or outward?

Anger turned inward or outward?

I am really distressed to hear about We Li 's court case and the death of his mother Emma Mae Tan.

It is such a horrifying situation. As a daughter who is now disabled because of a similar approach from my mother ... though my mother was never as controlling as this latest generation of tiger mums are.

I have heard about and seen these situations a few times.

It is important that we dont sweep everything into the cultural relativism basket. Sometimes it works out ... he was thinking about suicide and then committed murder. A tragedy for the family and for musical excellence.

Please, music is supposed to be a heart felt expression of the soul.

Re: Anger turned inward or outward?

Thank you for this discussion.

@Terry I like your recent post about despair and tend to agree, have felt that way for yonks, and dont need to put it into oppositional, dual, mine or thine arguments.

if you find the topic depressing then you dont have to post on it. You dont need to try and have the last word on it, let it be open for whoever else wants to discuss it. Start new threads about your own interests and experiences. The forum is well divided into different sections with "Enjoying time with others" etc. This section is on .. something is not right ... and I am trying to get to the core of important issues.

Personally I would have preferred the whole topic of despair and SI had never entered my life ... but as they have .. rather forcefuly and not of my own making I feel duty bound to give it good attention from time to time. i am having a lot of good times that gives me stamina to deal with the hard problems.

We can take the same thing from an academic and philosophical stance ... they discuss soft and hard problems. its ok take your pick.

As mental illness and the suicide rate are not going down in Australia and domestic violence and school issues are prevalent. I think they are all open to debate and as we have some cognitive skills we best use them.

@Appleblossom Appleblossom, if you're feeling despairing you need to write and/or talk things out pronto! i never despair much anymore about anything (at present, and I have high hopes for the future). There's always a way through despair and I think writing and/or talking it out (try one of the telephone counselling lines) are high on the list. And we're here for you Apple bee!

Re: Anger turned inward or outward?

@Appleblossom ps. i am not aware of 'trying to have the last word' on any topic or trying to deprive anyone of the right to post further on a topic. thank you.

ps. i reiterate that we are here for you, and i'm sorry if i sounded belligerant. i ring Lifeline (13 11 14) fairly often (not so much recently while I've been working on my autobiography) and I pray (which you know). There IS always a way through and it does seem to me that writing and/or talking it out are the best things. I have also forgiven the mental health system now, and left it behind too! If i can help you in anyway, let me know how and I will try. Best wishes.

I think of mental illness as an illness.. in the same way that tlc alone wont heal a broken leg (need surgery, plaster, physio possible medications etc).. i.e. therapy is a type of medical intervention, medication, lookng after ourselves and getting some tlc from loved ones etc...

Re: Anger turned inward or outward?

Hi there,

2 recent posts have been removed because they weren't helpful, disrespectful and were taking this discussion off track.

What is great about this forum is that we can all contribute our opinions and no one is wrong.

I want to highlight -

1) Opinions are formed by each individual's own experience

2) Everyone's experience is different - therefore, a lot of opinions are different

3) There is no right or wrong opinion

Lets not make it personal, lets keep it about our own opinions and be open to others' opinion. If you don't agree with someone, agree to disagree (or don't respond).

Thanks everyone,

Nik

Well that was a bit of a clash. Maybe wires crossed. @Terry

I am so glad that racism is no longer "acceptable". I got that you were having a joke about pianos being a scourge.

I guess my trigger word is "always" when used in a manner that invalidates the lives and deaths of people I have loved. I have also been abused by a "positive thinking" ego maniac which damaged my family.... so probably just triggered .. and shooting straight but not to seriously maim.

@Appleblossom No worries. We did get our wires crossed. One of my posts was poorly-worded and implied something I didn't mean. No harm done.

That is good @Terry

I felt we actually had a lot of similar opinions and values. I dont want to make any unnecessary conflict.

@Appleblossom No worries. One of my posts was poorly worded and you misunderstood what I meant. Take care and god bless 🙂
