losing clinical mental health support

losing clinical mental health support

I lost my my clinical mental health support (my fault) last week. I was wondering if other people who lost there support have found the transition from having support to no support difficult.

Sorry you were accused of a lie. Credibility is so important for trust and ongoing relationship. One of the reasons I keep a lot of my story re dates and years ... is that I can say I have the documentation to prove it.

I have looked at spectrum and private clinics too ... Yep there is an epidemic and services overflowing ... Know what you mean ... It would be good to build a team that you can build genuine relationships with ... you might have to keep trying local psych's .. which has been my plan ... to be honest I am not sure that expertise in a disorder actually means anything ... except that they can manage the med regimes. I would go for the personal.

Basically I started with a 1) gp, 2) a physical therapist (for my neck) and 3) a psychologist.

I had enough of the system and tried to work out what I as an individual needed.

Good Luck .. persist.

Re: losing clinical mental health support

I feel the same as you Bobby2015. My mental health care plan ran out in October and I could not afford the ongoing hefty fees of a psychiatrist. My gp has been managing my medication since then but he's made it clear that he's a gp and not a specialist. I feel quite stuck without my support psychologist but I'm not missing the psychiatrist. The community based assistance wouldn't help as I haven't been 'unwell' for long enough (only 4 years!)

Re: losing clinical mental health support

the mental health system is cr*p so if that's what you lost, it's no real loss. you cannot get by with NO support. never forget that not only will Lifeline (131114) listen to you (most operatives are good and you can call as much as you want), they will help you trouble-shoot your problems. There are bulk-billing, cheap and free counsellors around. There is Phams and a heap of different services. The unfortunate part is that ALL 'normal' people look down on us, thus you might not want to see your 'support people' when you are in need 😞

prayer and writing things down (share it directly with god) can help, blogging here, and lifeline, while you build up your 'support' network again. Local mental health drop-in centres are a good place to make friends and you can look up lots of resources that you might need on your computer. Good luck and god bless.
