I have been to both Ireland and NZ @Wanderer Both beautiful places and I would happily go back to either but much prefer my little home with my fur babies now. I would have used my long service leave to travel around a little of Australia but used most of that when I was sick so less than 3 weeks of that left - certainly not enough to do what I would like to do.

Saw a little of the North Island but travelled mostly in the South Ireland of NZ. I particularly liked Wellington - reminded me a lot of Hobart so felt very at home there @Wanderer @Shaz51 Queenstown was gorgeous and we went in the less touritsy times so it was less busy. I spent a few weeks in Ireland and it had the same feel ...like being at home - met some wonderful people and absolutely loved Dublin - so much to see and do everywhere. I love Irish History so for me it was a real adventure seeing some of those landmarks and museums. You can still see the bullet holes in the Post Office from the Uprising as well as so many other sites throughout the city - absolutely loved walking around the city.

There are a lot of powerful traditions in Irish culture. It is good to see them reclaiming many. I went there in 1981. Yep its blood runs through my veins ...
I am happy enough not to travel overseas, as I did have a big trip when I was young. I would like to see NZ for its closeness and geological wonders and see more of Australia, but I am no longer the best traveller, and so accepting it may not happen. I am planning a weekend to Canberra tho.
Cheers

Haven't been to Canberra since the early 90s @Appleblossom Spent most of the time at the museums but there is a lot more to do there now than when I went.
Have that Irish blood running through me too Apple - and proudly so. Irish on my Mum's side (way back though) and English on my Dad's side (way back also). Very much identify with my Mum's side of the family - they were family I was closest too.
