Hold on tight, this ride is a wild one

Hold on tight, this ride is a wild one

Good morning,

Hold on tight, this ride is a wild one - my life, explained in one sentence. I’d like to create a thread where we can share our wild ride stories.

One wild ride I have daily or hourly is the mood ride. It still takes me by surprise how quickly my mood changes and the impact of triggers, flashbacks and emotions. It’s not like in a roller coaster, where I’m at the top spreading my arm, screaming, waiting for the plunge. No, there is no excitement before the drop, it’s more like being in a scary ride and the next monster appears without any notice.

And when the monster appears the ride stops and I get so exhausted and need a long long time to press the button to continue the trip...

I’ve had little wins this week, but getting out of my comfort zone has left me exhausted, confused and a bit scared, whether all my life will be an effort. It seems I get overwhelmed well before the event, let’s say meeting someone for coffee and then after the coffee I’m drained. So an hour meeting for coffee turns out to be a full day or more of hard work in my head...

How do you deal with that? What is your wild ride?

Hi @Snowie it’s tough. I feel like I’m battling with myself to stay alive, always hoping the next day will be better. I’m tired of fighting. I’m embarrassed to be the way I am now and feel useless.

@Former-Memberthere is no judgement on here, nor any need for you to feel embarrassed on here, but I know irl it is totally different. Some days I think why bother, so much easier to give up, they would be better of without me. Fighting is super hard to do. Some days it is enough just to wake up.

Have you done any self care for yourself today?

@Snowie what keeps you fighting? No self care here today, not something i felt i deserved today.

@Former-Membertry and do something small for yourself, even if it just a cup of tea. Can understand the no self care. I take things out on myself alot, with lots of guilt and shame.

What keeps me going. That varies from day to day. Mostly it is my kids and Hubby that I don't want them to have to cope with my actions. Some days it is not letting those that treated me badly winning. Wanting to show that they have no control over me anymore.

Some days (like today) it is nothing. Plans are made, SH has happened and all I do is to get through minute by minute. Some days it doesn't even feel like fighting, it just feels like surviving. I just try to grab onto any hope I can and hope that I can somehow still be here tomorrow.

@Snowie I hope you’re ok and feel a little better tomorrow. Surviving, we’ve already survived and are still battling. Not fair

@Former-Memberyou are right, it is not fair, not one bit. We seem to get hit from multiple angles and it can all add up.

So perhaps we could both try a bit of self care. I am just about to make myself a cup of tea, perhaps you could do something similar. Have you got any plans for tomorrow?

Ok @Snowie I’ll make a cup of tea too. No plans for tomorrow.

Sounds good to me @Former-Member. I am just drinking my tea watching The Big Bang Theory. I love that show, it makes me laugh and helps me distract my thoughts.

Perhaps you could do something tomorrow. It might be as easy as get out of bed, or sit outside and read a book. Something small that gives you a chance to say "yes I did that"

I feel so alone. My head hurts. There is so much anger and disgust for myself and then I get sad because I feel so alone. And I think it isn’t true, but I feel it.

Good morning @Former-Member .....

I have felt many “really alone” times in my life, despite having people all around me ..... they were uncaring, unsupportive people who were in the closest roles, and I know it is much worse than that for some ....

So that was my cue to start reaching out in whatever capacity I could .... and to take my “alone-ness” out of the house. I had young children, so I took them to playgrounds, or burger places occasionally, or libraries ..... anywhere to catch the occasional smile and brief conversation with kind and thoughtful strangers.

It’s a human touch we are seeking .... and although they weren’t relationships, it was humankind, our kind, who were around us and responding. It was a bit of a soul-hug.

I encourage you to do the same ..... place yourself in the way of smiles and kindness wherever you can find them. It’s another way of taking baby steps. Wander a library for a while ..... buy a coffee and sit on a mall bench people-watching .... take a walk along a public beach and count the smiles of passers-by .....

Hugs Hon ..... keep swimming .... float when you’re too tired to swim .....

💜
