Hey sweets, yep my physical symptom of anxiety is chest pain – once I have it, im not in a good place and find it hard to do anything. Fortunately, it does settle gradually, and thankfully it hasn’t been taking as long as it has in the past.
I rang up health dept today to see if I could legally look at mum’s chart (its not even the nurses and doctor’s handwritten notes – its just the meds which she is taking and her obs). But there are policies in place where visitors are not allowed to look at their folders – weird. If her chart was in her room, I could be sneaky about it but it’s outside the room which makes it a bit hard.
Thanks luv, yeah I spoke to a private geri psych. I just need to have options available for when she is discharged from where she is at now. I can’t put anything in place yet as we don’t have a conclusive diagnosis which im finding difficult but I need to just wait. At least im looking at options though. There are some public mental health facilities (and I don’t want to come across snobby or anything like that) but I don’t know if mum would improve, or whether she would actually decline. She is used to having consistent care with one doctor, etc, and she has always paid her private health cover so she has that option. By no means is she wealthy, but she has always made sure she has her private health cover. Even where she is at now, she has different doctors and nurses seeing her every day and it is very overwhelming for her. I had a chat with the psych where she is and told him I have contacted a geri psych who seems happy to see mum upon discharge. Just have to wait. I have told the psych, medical doctors and social worker that they are not to make any decisions regarding mum unless I am in the discussions. I’ll have the final say as to what happens upon mum being discharged. I just get frustrated feeling im out of the loop sometimes and im not used to it as I have taken care of all of mum’s stuff for so long. It is very scary handing it over to someone else.
I also contacted dept of health to see if I could access mum’s old records from early 90’s when she was in a mental health facility to see if there psychotic episodes back them. the hospital closed in 2004 and only kept records back to 1997. Interesting to know that public mental health facilities have to keep mental health records indefinitely (or I think it is 7 years after the person is deceased) but private mental health facilities dont fall under the same legislation. pffft! I do think the meds are working – she is on an anti-depressant and 2 anti-psychotics. We are hoping to get her off one of them. she hasn’t had any psychotic episodes of late which is good. I think one of the anti-psychotics she was on did not agree with her – that’s when she was getting quite manic and psychotic.
Her uti has cleared up. Psych thinks that her behaviours could still be attributable to delirium or onset of vascular dementia. Her cognitive function has declined, and I can see that. Her mri shows there are small ischaemic changes, ie small blood vessels in the brain have become blocked – this starves the brain of oxygen and brain cells die. this can lead to vascular dementia. Psych said he tried doing the MOCA test with mum today. She was too tired to do all of it but he said from what she did complete, she didn’t do well.
Ooh good on you for having a hot bath – so jealous! Haha you definitely need a bath in your house by the sounds of it. our shower and bath were combined (roman style) but it was hard for mum to get in and out of the shower cause the hob was quite high. My uncle knocked out some tiles so it was easier for mum, but in doing so, we have not bath left! Lol … aah well, gotta keep the mama happy (plus it is her house! Lol) do you go to the pools, in the hydrotherapy pool? Or the spa with the jets? Ooh, that be nice for ya!
Thanks luv, I am trying to look after myself. Not going to see mum tomorrow. My days consist of sleeping in cause im so tired in the morning, doing bits and pieces at home, seeing mum, coming home, having dinner, relaxing and crying myself to sleep. In the evening is when it all hits me. it’s a good release but draining. but it just creeps up on me and is overwhelming. im seeing counsellor tomorrow and going to support group on Friday. I have supports in place, ie counsellor, friends and online support. Im concerned im going to burn out soon too luv. I need to try and pull back a bit, and calm down with what is happening with mum. I cant control the situation.
I have a friend coming to see me tomorrow morning for a cuppa – she lives down south in Margaret river and is in perth for a few days. And another friend has invited me over for dinner on Friday night. It is nice to have things to look forward to, especially low key things atm. Stuff doing things that require a lot of energy lol!!! Too hard …
Hows things with you luv? and how is your mum? You been okay? How is your son? he been good? So many questions hehe
It is 10.45pm here, you’re probably snoozing away. I was in bed crying and thought I’d do something to distract my mind. So here I am! haha
Ooh, as for chocolate, I ate 8 roses chocolates tonight lol … but have eaten better the past couple of days. Bought some fruit from the shop yesterday 😊 see, me good girl hehe
Big hugs and kisses *mwah*

Glad you've told them you want no procedures or changes unless you approve them first.
That's not good the MRI Results. But TIA mini strokes are hard to notice when they are occurring. I used to see the results in the nursing homes.
So I guess now they need to get your mum stable physically and mentally and then decide what to do ffrom that point.
No wonder you are worrying so much. But the reality is that worrying doesn't do anything. It doesn't stop her psychosis or her bp or anything else. As hard as it is, try not to think about the future - because you can not predict it. So it won't help worrying.
All that will happen is you will get sicker and then won't be able to care for your mum.
When do you see Mr Gorgeous? Your therapist. Make sure you let him know how stressful all of this is on you. Tell him about crying yourself to sleep. Hopefully he can help to reduce your anxiety.
Glad to hear about the roses chocolates. And the healthy eating too.
Am in Melbourne at mums specialist appointment. Appointment time was 50 minutes ago and we are still waiting. Bloody frustrating.
Last night / early this morning I was getting really anxious about not wanting to take mum in today. Wasn't sleeping as was stressing too much.
See. Do what i say - not what I do. Don't worry bella. Utopia worries. Lol. You can see what type of parent I am. Lol.
Have a good rest day.

hey sweetheart! yeah, had the day of from hospital although mum called me twice this morning to go in and see her - and bring her biscuits! she was quite adamant but i told her i cant today, i need to rest. then tonight she rang me insisting that i go pick her up and take her home 😕 but i havent gone anywhere today. a friend who lives in margaret river was in perth and visited me, plus i spoke to mum's psych and did washing, etc ... we say we have a day "off" but in reality we never do, do we?
i do need to take that step back as i cant control the situation, and trying to is making things harder for me. and i understand what you are saying luv. it doesnt sound harsh at all. it is what i need to do, ive just found it hard to do it up till now but if i dont i will burn out.
my bestie is coming over soon with fish and chips so that be nice ! good way to end a crappy day lol
how has your day been sweets? are you okay? how is your pop? how is your hand? what have you been up to? soooo many questions! get answering lol

Aaaw bugger luv, about there being no pools or spas. And yeah, definitely not worth it if you go have a spa, get all relaxed and then have to drive 50 mins to get home! I now understand why you only rent places with a bath! Hehe
The psych rang me today to discuss options. He is sending a referral to a public mental health facility that specialises in elderly people. because of the severity of mum’s symptoms transferring her to a private health clinic isn’t really an option. She is getting up during the night and wandering around and getting quite agitated when she doesn’t get her own way. so I can understand why its not really an option. Poor luv.
I had a long chat with the psych, also rang dementia Australia helpline to chat to someone and also spoke to someone regarding another ACAT assessment with mum. So it was a full on day, mentally speaking but at least those discussions have been made. But things are still in limbo because mums health hasn’t stabilised.
You’re very right luv, worrying doesn’t do anything. There are things I cant control. I can focus on the things I have to do but other things are out of my hands. Its been such an emotional rollercoaster. Monday she had a bad day, yesterday was a good day, and today another bad day. she rang me tonight demanding I go pick her and take her home – she had her bags all packed. She also rang my uncle asking him to take her home. she was getting quite agitated and angry – told me to pack my bags if I don’t go and pick her up 😕 I hate seeing her when she is depressed (like she was on Monday) and when she gets so agitated and angry. When I don’t give in, she just gets more agitated with me. but my hands are tied, I just hate knowing she is in that frame of mind. But then tomorrow, she will forget.
Lol – as for mr gorgeous, I was meant to see him today but I ended up cancelling. I was just so exhausted luv. and didn’t want to go over everything. I kind of wanted to have a day off from it all. Didn’t really happen though lol
As for healthy eating, im having greasy fish and chips tonight *nom nom nom* … im just waiting for my bestie to get her ar$e over here so we can eat lol! She is bringing dinner! 😊 good bestie haha
Ooh luv, is your mum okay? What was the appt for?? And yes, it is frustrating when specialists just make their patients wait for long periods of time. I hope you didn’t have to wait much longer after you messaged me.
Oh sweets, im sorry to hear about your anxiety. do you know why you were getting anxious about taking your mum to the doctor? Did you get any sleep at all? I hope you did. Otherwise that would have been even harder for you to function today if you didn’t get any sleep.
Haha, yes do as I say, not as I do hey??
How is your evening? What you having for dinner? Did you enjoy the rest of your day?
xxx

Re: Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI
That way she will be seeing psych specialists, but also who are trained in conditions that can affect the aged. A double win. Did he mention a likely time frame to transfer her to that hospital?
Pity you had to cancel with Mr Gorgeous, but I totally understand why. Just a real pity that you didn't get the break you needed.
Mum was seeing a respiratory specialist. 50 people booked in to see 5 specialists. 1 was on holiday. 2 called in sick. So the doctor who trains these specialists, came in and worked.
They arrived an hour after the first appointment was due. Then had to attend a mandatory meeting for 30 minutes. So they were 1 hour and 30 minutes late to start.
But the specialist had good news for mum. She does nit have COPD as all the gp's said. It was the flue combined with an allergic reaction. A reaction to what - they don't know. He also told her to stay off a particular pain med that her gp removed her from. But then she convinced his partner to put her back on it.
She's promised me ahe will not take it anymore.
I'm going to buy her some special hemp oil & she will see if that works for her pain.
Some people with osteoarthritis and fibro myalgia in the USA use cannabis to alleviate their pain. I said I will get some for her, but she doesn't want to try anything that will feel like she's stoned or intoxicated. Hence we will try the Hekp Oil instead.
On the way to Melbourne she discussed that she is thinking of going to Switzerland soon - within the next couple of years - to get assisted suicide - just like the Professor on the news. I told her that's fine. I just wish we had assisted suicide in Victoria or that we could get that drug they use,, sent to us here. Very hard to do. So mum told me she's planning on dying soon. Because she is so worn out. Her body is in so much pain. She can't do the things she likes to do. She is going to need nursing and housecleaning care soon. And she couldn't bare that.
I told her I was fine with that, but to let her gp know, as he may be able to recommend a stronger pain relief that she's not allergic to, or could give her some info on assisted dying.
I did tell her to let my brother and sister know. So that way there will be jo repercussions for me (being the only one that knew).
So. Happy news.
All in all it's been a shite day. Luckily I wasn't anywhere near a pub or bottle shop today.
Appointment with my psychologist tomorrow. God I so need to debrief with him.
Sorry. I was meant to write more about your mum - not mine. But it really has been a horrible day.
I send you and your mum my love and best wishes. But I do have to go to bed now before I start thinking too much.
Night night. ♥♡♥
