Re: Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI
yup its often solitaire, mahjong or a puzzle on my phone. im still on my computer so solitaire it is atm.
that is really concerning however you cant control what happens when your not there. they are going to do what the dr has ordered them to do, if they dont then tey get in trouble. it seems the drs ae the ones skrewing around and not listening properly. it would be hard on the both of you but your right your hands are tied. shes not ready to come home, and they wont discharge her yet. its giving you the chance to get supports in for yourself and have a think about what is the next thing to do when she is allowed to come home. are they suggesting some in home care for you or something else like a home- um theres another one its not so much a nursing home more like a retirement village...
hows her uti going? surley that has cleared up by now.
yup my own bed is better for me. sometimes i get really distressed and not too good through the night so best not unless i really have to. plus im barely sleeping as it is and being there makes it harder for me. yep, i try to plan things around those times im most needed. it doesnt always work and ive had to cancel things alot but its worth a shot. and yep i do get it, i do things for pop without really thinking about it- well actually i do alot for everyone without thinking about it which is why they all kick up such a fuss when i cant! but slowly does it.
whats your plans for the rest of the night? my posting may get abit slower now as my hand and wrist are starting to hurt abit more makes me abit irritated

Haha! I knew you would love that video. I have it saved in my favourites as it always have a giggle when I watch it. it never gets old!!!
She is under the care of a psychiatrist at the public hospital – he is a consultant psych, but the hospital isn’t a mental health hospital and they don’t have a geriatric psych unit. Unfortunately she isn’t under a psychiatrist at the private hospital where there are geriatric psych’s so I need to look into her getting a referral. I honestly don’t know what will happen when she is discharged from where she is at. It is all overwhelming and scary but I know I just have to take it day by day. sometimes she seems ok, and other times not.
Don’t apologise luv, I know what you mean. She doesn’t realise but she is making it harder on herself when she doesn’t comply with the nurses, especially for her meds. She picked up during the day. the nurse left her while she was in that mood and then a bit later mum actually asked the nurse for her meds. I do see that as a good sign as she made that decision. I spoke to her this arvo and she seemed better, she even said ‘I didn’t have a good morning’ … so she does remember. It is very up and down though luv. as for the urine sample – the nurse this morning told me that they have been trying to get the sample but mum wouldn’t do it in the special bowl for them!!! aaaarrrrggghhh … what am I gonna do with my mum luv???? hopefully she changed her mind for them though.
My uncle rang me this evening and explained why he couldn’t ring my mum. We had a little chat which was nice. I think he may have misunderstood my message in that I wanted him to visit today … hmmm … I can tell in his voice that he is worried for mum, he and my mum are very close, they are 3 years apart and were very close growing up.
I agree re: the flowers thing at hospital . I always made sure I bought mum flowers when she was in the mental health facility. She loves flowers and it brightens up the room for her. But unfortunately many people don’t do it – it is interesting though hey??. unfortunately,, I haven’t bought mum flowers this time – the reason being is that mum has been aggressive at times, and if she is in a mood, she may actually throw the flowers at the nurse. Apparently she threw a box of tissues at one of them …… I feel horrible not bringing her any but I know its best I don’t. I don’t want to be responsible for some poor nurse having flowers thrown at her! and just for the record – my mum isn’t usually in the habit of throwing things at other people – just wanted to clear that up hehe
As for other family members – mum only wants me and my uncle to visit her. my cousins ring me to see how she is, and I know a couple wanted to visit her but I said its best they visit when she comes home. I can also understand why she wouldn’t want visitors atm, being where she is, and in her mental state of mind atm it must be very hard for her. She doesn’t even want my sister to visit her … but that’s nothing new there. Because I know it is only me and my uncle visiting, I make sure I go as often as I can. it does put extra pressure on me but its just the way it is, plus I am the only one that can liaise with her doctors and nurses, etc. its so funny luv- they all know my name as im always there and when I rang today the ward clerk recognised my voice before I told her who I was! Haha
So glad you enjoyed the film and you had a good laugh! Wow, empty cinema indeed! Very true about the cold weather though. Its nice when theres not too many people at the cinemas though – can sit wherever you want! I also love going to the cinemas on my own – then I can really sit wherever I want haha … every now and then I will treat myself to gold class – but only during the week and during the day cause its cheaper haha!
Wow, I hope your son and his girlfriend were behaving when you walked into his room. She a nice girl luv?
Ooh nice getting your hair cut. Nice to be pampered. What other pampering things do you enjoy? Mine is my hair, my waxing and every now and then I will get my nails done – just a cut and nail polish – cant stand false nails. Wow you did cut it short! Do you like your new cut?? Do you have straight/curly/wavy hair? Mine is curly so i straighten the crap out of it haha! I think it breaks my mum’s heart that I straighten it -she loves my curls lol! She used to put it in ringlets when I was younger. I must admit I did look cute! 😊 hehehe
Good on you for treating yourself and getting those cd’s. it sounds like you had a really nice day today, and watching your son play soccer. You must be a very proud mum.
Yup, I live in perth. Wow, 1 degree?? Hooly dooly, that’s cold ☹ how far away from the city do you live?
Haha, so cute about your dog! One place my mum would never allow our dogs on was the sofa, and they learnt that pretty quick lol …although I was a big softie and would let them on my bed. but I was forever washing my bed sheets cause of the fur and the smell. Yep, get your son working with that steamer! Dogs are awesome. I miss having a pooch but don’t think I could take on the responsibility now. They do need a lot of love and attention, and training. Omg, I just remembered the last dog I had would sleep so close to the gas heater it would freak me out. He was literally right in front of it. I used to push the heater back from him. He would get so warm, he obviously loved it but it was too close to my liking! I find it hard to be their ‘master’ … I just want to give them big cuddles ! hehe … I was just looking through my photos of him. I have pics of him all snuggled under my doona. I just got so side tracked looking at photos of my doggie.
And very true re: meds. Every now and then is ok. Im feeling a bit calmer tonight so I wont take any.
As for my day today, I did some washing and vacuumed the house. OMG while I was vacuuming I remembered why I don’t vacuum anymore. My back was aching! But I got the whole house done so was pretty chuffed with myself when I finished. Sore, but chuffed! Haha
Hey how is your mum luv? she doing ok?
I hope you get a good nights sleep xxxx

@outlander
i have one puzzle game on my phone atm. the more i have the more i get addicted to them!!
yeah, i have been doing research into getting more assistance at home luv. we have had an ACAT assessment and have been approved level 2. it takes longer for that to come through through so they have given us a level 1 - i need to research different home care providers and decide who to use for us. ive been trying to get my head around all of this stuff while also dealing with mum's stuff at hospital. hasnt been fun luv! lol
there are public mental health facilities that i am looking at. there is also a private mental health hospital with psych's that specialise in geriatric psychiatry. she would need a referral to see one of the psych's there though. i just wish i had a definite answer as to what is going on. hard to put things into place without knowing what is happening with her. poor luv.
they are trying to retest her urine to make sure the UTI has cleared up. but this morning she was in a mood so she wouldnt pass urine in the special bowl. hopefully she changed her mind during the day though! cheeky mama
boundaries my luv, boundaries! hehe ... your family are so used to you doing everything they will continue to rely on you to do things, and yep, the minute you say you cant do something, they will jump up and down. i get it though - when i was your age i had no clue about placing boundaries in my relationships so other people know how much i would and wouldn't do for them. i still struggle with placing in boundaries between me and my sister. unfortunately the more we do for some people, the more they take. there is no give on their part. when you have a friendship or relationship with someone that is recipricol you dont mind going that extra mile for them .
as for me luv, it is now 10pm. i think i may hit the sack. im already in bed nice and comfy but should probably get some beauty sleep - lord knows i need a lot of it these days haha!
always lovely chatting with you sweets. i hope you do get some sleep tonight, be kind to yourself okay? otherwise you'll have me to deal with! haha
sweet dreams luv

Re: Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI
Being sick and being prodded and medicated. I would hate it. So she's probably doing better than I would in her position @Bella1978.
You don't need to take her flowers. You have bought her some comfy warm pajamas which she liked and appreciated.
Your uncle must find it hard seeing your mum so sick at the moment - especially as the doctors haven't said how long she will need to be there. Frustrating for you to.
The girlfriend was on her phone playing a game. My son was sleeping.
Pampering - never. I'm chemically sensitive so can't be around smells. So no massages. I wash my hair then go to the hairdresser. It's a basic hairdresser and cheap. They don't wash hair. They only do haircuts.
I can't use nail polish or remover. Can't dye my hair or use any hair products. Very restricted in the shampoo conditioner soap deodorant and washing powder that I can use.
I don't normally buy books or cd's. So doing that this year is a real splurge / luxury. The ph bill can just wait. Lol. Priorities. I did use to go up to my mountain and sit and meditate. Is a very spiritual place (I feel it) & I feel a real connection to the landscape, the animals and plants and the First Nations people who once lived there. But I haven't been for over a year. I'm determined to get up there this week, before my Thursday appointment with my psychologist.
My hair is straight with a slight curl or bounce to it. Having just had it layered - it looks like I have large wings coming out from my ears. Lol. But I'll waah it this week and try and style it. If I can't get it to look right, I'll just tuck it behind my ears or tie it up in an elastic band.
Ringlets. Cool. Must have been a very cute look. Shirley Temple style?
I get worried too with dogs too close to heaters. They don't feel the heat after a while, & it has been known for their fur to catch alight.
Mum is struggling with her walking at the moment. Fluid build up in her legs makes it very uncomfortable. Seems she's been on fluid tablets for almost 6 months. I noticed this afternoon when I dropped off her milk and bread, that she has gained a lot of weight. Ahe mentioned her clothes don't fit comfortably a number if times recently. So it looks like she'll be going up to a size 26. With her fibro myalgia and regional pain syndrome and arthritis - she can't go swimming anymore - because it takes her so long to redress herself after that she is too worn out to drive the 50 minutes home. I'm pretty worried about her. Her doctor has taken her off a lot if meds recently and out her on a lot if others. She takes so many pain killers.
Anyway. I'm iff to bed now. Send my best to your mum tomorrow and take care of yourself too.

Hey luv, hows your day going?
I don’t think mum actually remembers the past few weeks, which im actually relieved about. yesterday morning she wasn’t herself but I don’t think it was psychosis – she was just really pi$$ed off poor luv. she seemed better during the day. and ive already had 2 phone calls from her this morning letting me know what she wants me to bring to her today lol … its just not good when she rings me before my morning coffee hehehe! She seemed good and the nurse said she has been good this morning. Thanks for always asking about her, and letting me talk about her with you. I feel bad sometimes cause I seem to hijack our conversations! So I do appreciate you letting me talk about things *mwah*
And you’re right, she is probably doing better than I would in the situation too.
Im actually thinking, I could bring her flowers cause her psychosis isn’t there like it used to be, hmmmm …. But what if she did throw them to the nurse … nah, that not be good.
I think with my uncle, his frustration (perhaps with me even) comes out of fear seeing his sister go up and down, and not knowing what will happen either – they are very close, so I can imagine how hard it would be for him. He has seen mum at her best, and at her worst over the years.
Good to hear you son and his girlfriend were behaving! Otherwise you would have been in for a shock luv lol
Oh sweets, that’s a bugger about being so sensitive to smells and products. Do you come out in a rash luv? I hope you don’t mind me asking what your reaction is. My skin is a bit sensitive but not like yours, so I be careful what I use. This will make you laugh, and it is something mum has always instilled in me – “always be careful what you use on your face!” lol … and I guess its true, as if we have a reaction on our arm, leg, etc it can be hidden but not on the face! Haha … my mum is 73 but no way does she look her age. She has beautiful skin and doesn’t wear makeup. She hasn’t been out in the sun a lot either. Lucky woman! Id probably say she looks in her 60’s.
Good on your for your splurges! I think it is important to treat ourselves, hence why I went all out for my 40th lol! We’re worth it! and it is self care 😊
Haha re: the phone bill, and yes you have your priorities straight 😉 mum is always asking me “how’s things at home? are you okay? Have any bills come?” … im like “its fine mum, everything is taken care of – you taught me well lol” … I guess a mother always worries, hey?
I recall you telling me you would go to the mountain and meditate. Sounds like you are at peace when you are there. I hope you do go as it sounds like it is a really good place for you to have some time for yourself.
Oh poops, just got a blackout ☹ looked online and it says estimated restoration time is 4pm … it’s only 12.30pm now. Aaah crap. Sometimes it comes on sooner than they estimate though. I still need to have a shower though *sigh* ... im on my laptop which is why I can still type. I really don’t like blackouts, such an inconvenience – first world problems, hey???
Haha, that is so cute re: the wings coming out from your ears! If I tuck my hair behind my ears, my ears stick out lol … not a good look! But yes, tying it back is always a good option! I seriously need to colour my hair, I have jet black hair and have too many white hairs coming through. I just cant be bothered!
Yeah, mum would sit and curl my hair with her fingers. I have photos of when I was younger and I had two pony tails on each side of my head – with just two big fat ringlets! Haha
Animals are funny, aren’t they? Actually one time, my doggy was in my bedroom laying close to the electric heater … I smelt something burning! Poor doogy – he was all good though, felt nothing but a bit of his fur was signed. Honestly, I am a good pet owner … you’re probably questioning that though, hey??
Im so sorry to hear about you mum. Understandable that the fluid in her legs would be making it hard for her to walk. Do the docs know why she retains fluid? Could her increase in weight be due in part to her fluid retention? She also has fibromyalgia and arthritis? Its not fair seeing them in so much pain, is it? and when they have comorbidities it makes it harder for doctors to treat them, especially because of interactions with medications, and certain medications are not good for older people. I have never heard of regional pain syndrome. And understandable that you are worried about her. it is a worry when they are on so many different tablets. does she have someone help her in the home or does she manage on her own? do you know why the doctor took her off so many meds and replaced them with others? Was it from side effects? So many questions! Hehe … For pain mum takes Painkillers, and if its really bad, she will take painkillers. She cant take any inflammatories because of her kidneys. She mentions a lot of the time that she is weak, it has been on ongoing thing. When she is depressed, she feels her weakness more. However, cause of the decrease in kidney function, she is anaemic. Its so hard isn’t it? to know what is causing something – and also, cause it could be medication that is causing it. its frustrating, they are on medications as they need them (same as your mum) but the side effects can really take a toll on them.
What you up to today? I was washing some more bed sheets, now the washing machine has stopped though – it was right near the end of the cycle too! grrrr … will go and see mum later on today, will bring dinner with me. my uncle just texted me saying he saw her this morning and she was really good. Keeping my fingers crossed but not getting my expectations too high!
xxxxxxx

Re: Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI
I woke up at 2.30pm. Wow. Dreamt I was going to adopt a baby from Vietnam. And some weird and wild stuff in this dream. Can't remember most of it. Just strange.
No I don't think you are a bad pet owner. I think you'd be a very kind owner.
Glad to hear your mum is doing good this morning.
Think they took mum off some of the meds because they may have been causing other complications. But I can't remember. My brain is a fog today. Not working well. The doctors don't know what is causing the fluid retention. But with so many illnesses - the doctors have a hard time trying to keep her pain at a manageable level.
When I get exposed to certain smells / chemicals - say for example someone wearing perfume in the movie cinema & I'm having a hyper sensitive day - it starts out as pain in my nose. So I start breathing through my mouth. Throat gets sore and swells (not anaphylaxis bad). Then comes the headache. Intense. Then it affects my thinking and physical abilities. For example - I type over 60 wpm. Within 10 to 15 minutes of being exposed to product - my typing speed drops to 20 wpm. Concentration is very hard. But even when I leave the environment where the smells / chemicals were - 6 hours later (for that whole time - my nose still smells it. It smells like someone has bathed in a vat of perfume. The smell is so strong. And it knocks me out - sleep wise for hours. I also get hives. This has been getting worse - the hives for the past few years. Antihistamines don't work. Generally the hives are on my left inner arm. But lately my whole body is affected and I can't stop scratching. I have to hope into a cool shower. Wash fully and then put on all new clothes. It's frustrating. But again, it only happens when I'm super sensitive. Have had some bad reactions when I've been in hospital, because I can't escape the smells. I don't let the cleaners clean my bathroom in hospital. I can smell their cleaning trolleys when I walk into a ward. It's awful. It's worse when I'm run down.
My mum is allergic to the top painkillers. So is restricted to medium level pain relief.
It's good you talking about your mum. You are in a crisis at the moment, so focus needs to be given to you and your mum now. Nothing wrong with that. It happens to us all. That's when we need the most support here.
I'm very cold today. Can't seem to get warm. I might have a hot bath. That should help warm me up.
Shit. Today I have written a lot about me and my mum and our issues.
But I do hope your mum is doing well when you get to hospital. Do you both sit and talk about the old days? - like her doing ringlets in your hair? Does she enjoy those conversations?
Well I'm off to get warm. Have a great afternoon. Maybe talk with you tonight. Take care. ♥♥♥
