I did them for around 15 years. I was only in chorus so not a soloist or big name.
Last gig just before lockdowns.
Event began as transitional for recent graduates into professional roles. I have respect for the founders who were always decent to me. I was professional and self reliant. They were fabulous and not snobs. They aged out and it is more boutique for the scholars and not such big events. I have been very FORTUNATE to have lived a RICH and varied work and musical life. I once gently teased the Everything music thread that it was a bit limited by the tastes of a few, and patiently backed off, but not completely out. Maybe that’s why they were careful in creating the name of the new thread.
Mainly got into it due to son’s interest in opera, and it gave me something productive to do when he was on access with his father. Later I got him into it, but it was too little too late for him. Got the mother of my grandson into it. Maybe she was the problem. Hmmm.
I am doing music for myself again in the last 3 years. Different instruments. Quieter gentler deeper tessitura. Poor apple tablet doesn’t know that word. Concert this weekend.
However was up at 4am pondering the excesses of the leader of that ensemble, who only has 7th grade but insists on sniping at people, even those far more qualified than him. I first met him about 7 years ago, had a mild crush on him till this March, but he has blown that out of the water. I am committed to concert, and uncertain of how I will proceed Small ensembles can have very finely attuned group dynamics and varying loyalties. Apparently he has put off many fantastic musicians over the years. We will see how it goes…
then the next day I have rehearsal with another group for a recording in October. Just structuring my life as well as I can. It’s great to have been able to do LIVE music all my life.
