Seeking mutual support from carers

Seeking mutual support from carers

Reaching out to others who are in a caring role. I look after my mother with multiple health issues, including depression and anxiety. I feel stuck. I can see the signs that the depression has reared its head but my mum doesn't see it. I really struggle when my mum's mental health suffers. I too battle with depression and anxiety. Emotionally, I am all over the place. Hoping there are some others out there who understand what I'm going through.

Hi @Shaz51!

Hope things are going ok at yours. How's everyone?

School holidays here so have had an out of routine kid on our hands. Mum has been settling into her first week at residential respite care. Thankful that she seems relatively happy.

As the weather is getting cooler, my body is gradually adjusting and still haven't really gotten comfortable in bed so waking early each morning. I think I must be fighting something.

Working on Internal Family Systems in my counselling sessions to understand better my internal struggles when it comes to caring for mum and needing to do self care and the different parts of me make up who I am and the values I hold. Hopefully will help me to grow in being wiser in my caring roles.

Keep well!

Inner Family Systems

Hi @Susana ......

This is a discussion thread we had going last year that may interest you, or you may be able to add to it. I found this concept of personality so enlightening, not only for myself, but in coming to terms with my hubby’s illness, and core personality traits within our famil and extended families ....

I think it really helps with understanding dissociative disorders as well.

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope for the Link to the discussion on Internal Family Systems therapy. Interesting, makes a lot of sense.

Working under a counsellor with Internal Family Systems is great @Susana, You will get to ask questions and explore the topic with a knowledgeable guide. I hope it helps you quickly and well.

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

Does anyone of you have experience with online counseling/therapy options?

My wroking schedule with 2 jobs and kids don't really allows me going to appointment.

I have few recomendation for this guys https://supportive.com.au/, but I'm not sure how sms-ing your theraphist can really work out your problem.

Any suggestions?

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

I would start with phone counselling services, or online chat within your area of need @Bella_Frank. Ours is eating sdisorders, for instance, and it appears to be branching from there, but specialist counsellors in these fields can advise further.

I understand you wariness regarding therapy by text ..... I can’t tell you whether it’s a good thing or not, but there is a Helpcentre here at Sane -phone or online chat -so maybe talk it out with them and see if your feelings settle one way or the other ?

They may be aware of other options for someone in your circumstances.
