Seeking mutual support from carers

Seeking mutual support from carers

Reaching out to others who are in a caring role. I look after my mother with multiple health issues, including depression and anxiety. I feel stuck. I can see the signs that the depression has reared its head but my mum doesn't see it. I really struggle when my mum's mental health suffers. I too battle with depression and anxiety. Emotionally, I am all over the place. Hoping there are some others out there who understand what I'm going through.

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

no worries @outlander ... yeah i think we were having 2 conversations last night too lol

i agree - forcing someone to do something can have adverse effects.

yep, i have 2 close friends that come see me at home and visit mum at the same time which is lovely.

as for making doc appts without mum's consent, that wont go down well. the other week she had to see psych and flat out refused. my mama stubborn when she wanna be luv lol.

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

does your mum have any friends at all? @Bella1978 or chats to the neighbours or anything? someone coming to see her as 'her friend; could help as well.

sometimes they act like big kids dont they, very stubborn and throws tantrums when they want to

@Susana

thanks for your support. and yes, mums will be mums - even though the roles can be reversed, they are still the 'adult' in the relationship.

i love mum and i saw how she cared for, and loved, her mum, so it is natural for me to do this but it gets so tiring sometimes. but i will take your advice and let mum decide how she wants to do things. she needs to have some control back. and i need some rest! hehe

sending you big hugs back, thanks again for your advice

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

@outlander

she has a close friend - they ring each other every other week and see how they are travelling.

my mum's older brother comes to visit often , and mum is quite close with her younger brother. she also has regular phone contact with one of my cousins. i agree though, having a friend to visit her would be ideal. ive tried getting her and her friend to get together for coffee/tea but it still hasn't happenned! she is carer for her husband so she has a bit on her plate too.

anyway, tell me about your day luv. what you been up to?

Hi @Bella1978,

You are super amazing in being able to keep multiple conversations going! I take my hat off to you dear!

Yes, rest is good! Especially when yoi are tired…I appreciated some good advice a few years back when it comes together caring for my child with autism..... Think of it more like a marathon rather than a sprint.... Or else you'll run out of steam very quickly." I guess, to some extent it could be applied to other caring roles.....

In any case, I need to learn this as much as anybody. Very difficult to relinquish control over things, especially when it comes to protecting our loved ones.....we just don't like seeing them suffer.

Hi there @outlander!

I'd better sign off for today. My eyes are droopy and tired. Goodnight all!💝

i hope you get some sleep too luv, thank you for the chat, always love catching up with you at the end of the day
