Re: Who are You?
Hi Alessandra1992 and Justanother 47 y/o,
Love the conversation! I think the thing about 'carers', in a 'caring role' that satnds out is the word 'caring'. In other words you are all such wonderful, CARING people. It's a pleasure to talk with you all!!
also...
FAIL, SAIL & TAIL...
First Attempt in Learning, Second Attempt In Learning and Third Attempt in Learning...that gives me a whole lot of opportunity every day...
I LOVE THIS!! I think that's basically what we do in life - we simply just keep learning every day. I often say to people "I don't really know anything". Because I think as soon as we think we know a lot, then the learning process stops. The more we know, the less we can learn. The more we don't know know, the more we can learn.

Good think Sophales your buddy too, he one said 'the only thing I know is that I know nothing....'
I'm finding myself getting a little 'bitter,' as I'm getting older. I'm really 47 yrs old now.
Like I misplaced my file for the work I've done this last fortnight. I rang my work office and told them to send me my timetable so can get paid this week. they forgot to and I'm feeling more than usual grouchy.
I, in the process of finding a home loan to purchase a home now
Am working and can save over $500 per fortnight over my rent.
I was told a big fib by Department of Housing in my state and Just got all the right information and I'm finding I'm affected about it more than usual.
I'm wanting to have a break and already I have to go into my savings to do that....boy I. Grouchy. I'm becoming a bitter middle aged woman. and watch out if you tell me anything negative. Ille go home and seethe!!!

Re: Who are You?
Awww @PeppiPatty , I wouldn't say anything negative!! You have shared a bit of your journey with us for the last 6 or so months now, and while there's up and downs (that's life), the underlying thing you get across is how much strength you have. (Oh, and also how wonderful a person you are!!)
So, keeping in with my philosophical self, I'll give you all another little saying (I'm full of 'em...)
Saying is simple, it goes..."It'll be all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end"
I find that's both realistic (often things are NOT all right, as we all know) and positive in that it renews my hope for the future.
By the way, it's not that philosophical, Zen, Confucius or anything....I think I read it in a Stephen King book or something.
Hobbit.

Re: Who are You?
I purchased a stretchy thing with handles for exercise. You know 10 x 3 stretches 3 times a day but it's still thinking process 3 times at one time because it is really really hard.
I'm sleeping well.
Haven't had time to go down the beach but worked out in hopefully purchasing a very small unit or flat....I happier living near water.
Because want to float on top of water and let's my arms and legs to go flat on the water.
do you know what I mean ?

Hi @Used2Be
I really like this thread you started. I think it's something all carers go through - feeling disconnected from ourselves.
I noticed you're yet to answer this question yourself. How are you? Has the 'drama' subsided a bit?
Hope you're well!

Re: Who are You?
Hi @Used2Be
I love this thread you started. Who am I?
I'm Jim & Heather's daughter. I'm John's wife. I'm sister to three. I'm mother to two. I'm step-mother to three. Grandmother of one and step-grandmother of two. Hmmm, wonder if I've forgotten anything?
I have you know. I forgot that I'm ... me!!! I'm an individual who just happens to be all those other things as well.
When I remember that I'm me I use words like "I'm a patchworker and quilter" or "I'm a craft-maker". Also "I'm a carer." Using these words make me supremely happy. Why? Because they don't indicate that I'm an extension of someone else. Each of these expressions indicates that I'm an individual.
So, in answer to your question "Who are you?" I'm Cazzie, and I'll be your friend on the forum tonight. 🙂

Re: Who are You?
For what it's worth I thougth I would let you know what it has been like for me.
For a long time I went through the real craziness with my sibling and I got drawn into the drama so much that I felt like I was drowning in it. I think it has a lot to do with all the negativity taking over my thoughts and every decision I tried to make. It was all consuming.
It wasn't until my sibling finally got onto some medication to stabilise things that I got a bit of breathing space back. The funny thing was that I was so conditioned to the behaviour that it took a very long time for me to start being me again. I was always waiting for the next incident to occur. Always looking over my shoulder. Always dreading hearing the phone ring or whether the knock on the door was the police again. I was constantly on guard.
One of the biggest changes I have noticed about me now is that I don't take much crap from people these days. I am getting better at fending off ridiculous things my sibling says to me. One good thing is that I don't sweat the small stuff anymore.
You can't get back to being you again until you get that breathing space I mentioned. For me, it started with little things like listening to some favourite songs that I could enjoy again. I went and had a couple of massages done. I had a hair cut. I went to some nice parks to take in the scenery. Just little things and small steps with reconnecting to things that I had previously liked to do. I still have trouble reconnecting with my friends because they don't really know what I've been through. If I could go back in time I would have told the world what was going on. Instead I let myself become isolated which I think is something the abuser really loves because they don't get exposed if you are cut off from everyone. When you're going through hell you don't really want to put on the fake smile so you just stay away from people as much as possible. Big mistake but it happens.
I'm very glad I had the counselling sessions though. To be honest, most of what was said to me during the time of extreme madness didn't even sink in. My brain just couldn't process it. I think more than anything it felt good to just talk to someone who understood what I was going through.
To wrap up, keep doing things that are special and have meaning to you. Lock yourself away or get out of the house and try to enjoy the moment you are creating for yourself. If it feels good, keep doing it. If it doesn't then find something else or try again at another time. Try some counselling sessions if you haven't already done so.
I don't think I will ever be exactly the same again after what I've been though. I still feel the effects and think about the incidents that have happened over the past few years. I still have the desire to get away for good so I can finally be done with it. I get stressed farily easily these days and I know I'm still very fragile. I take each day as it comes and deal with it as best as I can.

Re: Who are You?
Thank you.
I think your writing about my life there. I joined sane to get support on something I didn't know I was feeling.
It was to ask questions and feel what I needed. In here, I read people's inputs. I read the articles posted by sane.
At this very moment, I've decided I'm carrying the 'do something so I can be overwhelmed gene. ' someone I thought was very good for me .......took some steps to mean I'm overwhelmed again.
write....when your ready to...say whatever.
My psychologist and I ...yesterday I saw her.....spoke yesterday and she and I decided to take two weeks off work. She said feel the feeling going down in your stomach. she said, you know what your doing, you have the tools but your doing too much.
So much for going to see her to get my own business going.
Dark chocolate helping too
