Anagram Glossary?

Anagram Glossary?

This is about a minor peeve I've recently developed with this forum. I've noticed that a lot of the users here have a habit of writing the anagrams for what their talking about with no further explaination. Some of them I am familiar with, e.g. PTSD = post trauma stress disorder, OCD = obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD = attention deficit hyperactive disorder, ect., ect. But I'm increasingly noticing that there are a lot of anagrams I don't recognize.

Maybe this is a case of "if you don't know what it means, you probably have nothing to contribute to the discussion anyway," but I still find the confusion this produces a bit irritating.

I'm wondering if maybe it might be a good idea to have a link on the side of the forum to a glossary of all the common mental illness & psychiatric anagrams that people seem to use on these forums, so that the rest of us can understand what's going on?

In fact, if the guys who run this site are really nifty with their programming skills, they could rig the site so that whenever a reader rolls their mouse over an anagram, it automatically pops up the expanded definition of what it means

Just a thought...

@CannonSalt, That's good to know as I would've just assumed it stood for Mental Health, especially if I encountered the term on a forum like this.

Yeah, @chibam - that's the term that's used in the field to describe 'fitbits and apps and mobile things', so it can be confusing - and someone here might be wanting to look up apps and things to improve their physical and mental health. I figure it's important to include treatments as well as ailments in the glossary, because usually you can work out the ailment by the context (ED being two things, less so with BiPolar/Borderline Personality), but whatever you-beaut treatment acronym is.. you can only work out by context that it's a treatment, and that it is you-beaut.

Re: Anagram Glossary?

It does get confusing sometimes with all the different acronyms. I think a glossary of some kind would be great.

I think we use acronyms partly because it's easier and less time consuming to type out. But sometimes it is about something we want to avoid.

I have BPD and I hate the term. I think the name of my illness is part of the reason it is so hard to overcome stigma. Just think for a minute about the concept of a "personailty disorder" (I know borderline isnt the only one) - pretty much being told there is something fundamentally wrong with what makes you you. I find even having to write out the term can be triggering and the acronym helps avoid that.

Maybe it shows my age, I prefer English 🙂

CSA, for me, is Child Support Agency (I make payments when I am paying wages for employees).

Maybe we all need to simply ask the writer, if we are not sure?
