Anagram Glossary?

Anagram Glossary?

This is about a minor peeve I've recently developed with this forum. I've noticed that a lot of the users here have a habit of writing the anagrams for what their talking about with no further explaination. Some of them I am familiar with, e.g. PTSD = post trauma stress disorder, OCD = obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD = attention deficit hyperactive disorder, ect., ect. But I'm increasingly noticing that there are a lot of anagrams I don't recognize.

Maybe this is a case of "if you don't know what it means, you probably have nothing to contribute to the discussion anyway," but I still find the confusion this produces a bit irritating.

I'm wondering if maybe it might be a good idea to have a link on the side of the forum to a glossary of all the common mental illness & psychiatric anagrams that people seem to use on these forums, so that the rest of us can understand what's going on?

In fact, if the guys who run this site are really nifty with their programming skills, they could rig the site so that whenever a reader rolls their mouse over an anagram, it automatically pops up the expanded definition of what it means

Just a thought...

Just came across another one in a post -

ABI - Acquired brain injury

Re: Anagram Glossary?

I think this glossary is a good idea. If you can add it to where you'd find the community guidelines. So it is easy for newcomers to find.

Can I get someone to confirm, but I think PDoc is psychiatrist.
At least, when I post, I use PDoc for psychiatrist, and psych for psychologist...

Perhaps the most confusing one of all as it seems like a more appropriate abbreviation for a urologist...

I've been staring at this for like 5 minutes.
I finally understand the joke.

I had a psych(ologist) appointment today, and I'm all out of spoons and brain-thoughts

Re: Anagram Glossary?

ERP = ?

GP = General Practitioner i.e. regular doctor (might be a bit obvious, I know, but maybe there are some people who don't know the term).

Re: Anagram Glossary?

Erp is something to do with exposure to triggering things to decrease the fear and anxiety you get from it but I can't remember the terms!!

Re: Anagram Glossary?

ERP is Exposure Response Prevention therapy. I just googled it. It appears to be aimed at OCD. It involves exposure to a trigger, but not using the repetitive behavior.

Re: Anagram Glossary?

NLP is another one for a kind of therapy that I've seen on the forum - I think @chookmojo said at one point it stood for neurolinguistic programming?
