Hello @hiddenite sorry that it is difficult for you not getting help when you ask. I know that feeling well. From a young child I had to become very self reliant. Without hating the world, they say we only have a few real friends in our lives. Yet you do impress me by your determination to take on things .. like your new home. Is there any way you can take stock and trim all the non-essentials, so that you can manage. Eg I chose a home in walking distance of the shops so that I knew I could do the basics if my neck stopped me from driving. It was also small enough for me to manage ... even if my gardening and housekeeping is not perfect .. it is good enough and safe. Sometimes we try and take on too much and fall in a heap. can you take on less ... maybe? Go gently with yourself.
Sorry to interrupt @Jacques I am replying to a post back a few pages. About affection and social ettiquette. I get that about your parents. My mother was a bit the same. I tried too hard in the other direction. Heart on my sleeve, tried to love everybody etc.. kissed my pisno students on the cheek ... not really practical, but it was good in that it stopped me getting too hating of the world. If I stayed with my anger I would turn out like my brother and wasnt good for anyone least of all him.
So I am learning to reign in a bit. just focus on my son, home and myself, be friendly and polite. If people respond well thats a bonus. If they dont, and they tread on my toes 3 times I let them know. My psychologist told me to let them know after the each time, and I am slowly getting better at immediate responses, so no-one can say if I get upset that it came out of nowhere. I am pretty slow to anger, but am not going to apologise anymore if I have been baited. Anger is a legitimate emotion designed to protect us. ... Glad the potplant incident wasnt too bad by the way.
Social ettiquette is very complex in a diverse society like Melbourne. There are too many ethnicities, types and classes of people to have rules that fit all sizes. it just doesnt work.
You, Karen, I and all the forum memebers, need to be able to take up our genuine amount of space ... and live and let live ... sorry I am getting blah blah ... but your lovely post was too beautiful for me not to respond.
Take care all
