My special place

My special place

Well yesterday certainly threw everything off track. But thanks to some very thoughtful and kind people I was able to get threw it and continue.

I cannot say a lot about what happened as I am sure you all understand but need this support in place.

Things WILL be ok, just a lot to work out.

Psych visit yesterday sorted out some of the things and more things will be happening early next week.

I am sorry if I put anyone through any despair, but unfortunately what happened yesterday morning had to be done.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Re: My special place

I'm sorry to hear he hasn't been good @Shaz51 I know hospital would be worse, but it must put a lot of pressure on you too hon, being his carer.

It's good you have a few things to do.

I rarely have the tv on during the day too.

Re: My special place

he said he will plug the tv up again in the downstairs room @Snowie

so I can sit there with the aircon and watch tv but i said there is nothing to watch

just had a silent lunch and cuppa with him , and he has gone back to bed

Re: My special place

There isn't much to watch on tv @Shaz51 Mostly if I watch it's a movie or doco so I don't have ads.

I could easily have an afternoon nap here! Should get some lunch though

Good evening @Snowie 🫶

I am so glad you found the right mix of medication. It really can take a while to figure out, can't it? And finding the right thing for the moment is very relatable too. What do you notice has been helping you most of the past couple of days?

Maybe this is your reminder that sharing can be met with acceptance and understanding, and that the more you explore it, the easier it will feel? 🥰

Knowing that it keeps you feeling more stable/at a more comfortable baseline is really positive. When will your next session be?

Thanks for your reply @AuntGlow

Not much has been helping lately. Been using prn most days to at least make things a little easier.

I've struggled to do basic things.

My next session with my psych is 2 weeks away and it will be via telehealth. Sharing over a computer screen for me is difficult. I should be used to it by now but I'm not.

Oh well, doesn't really matter. It is what it is.

Re: My special place

I am glad the prn is helping a little bit @Snowie 💛

But I understand how hard it can be to feel like basic things are tough... I am curious, what thoughts or sensations come up for you most when you're finding tasks challenging?

I totally get this too. It's hard to feel embodied over a screen, isn't it? I know we mentioned walking and talking on the phone in the past. How would it feel to try this during your next appointment? 🥰

Re: My special place

Hi @AuntGlow

I think motivation is a big one, when I try and do different tasks. Not being bothered too, to tired, telling myself I'll do it the next day (and never do). Then I normally get angry and upset at myself for being so lazy.

I actually 'see' my psych on my laptop. So I can see her face and she can see mine. I guess it is more like a video chat. Not sure how I would go walking with my laptop. I have sat outside before. Just need to be close enough to the house for Wi-Fi.

Re: My special place

I completely hear you. I find myself in cycles like this too, so please know you're not alone. @Snowie

Have you ever found any strategies that have been helpful for motivation? Everyone is different, so I am curious to know what has/hasn't worked for you.

I am also wondering what you imagine would happen if you didn't get mad at yourself?

And my last question on this - I wonder if we can reframe this concept of being lazy to simply, 'what your nervous system has capacity for right now'? 💛

Ah, I am with you! I wonder if you could take your phone and chat to her that way? So you have a little more ease of movement if you need? 🥰

Re: My special place

Hi @AuntGlow

I find my motivation is linked with how my MH is going. If my mood is low then I struggle with motivation, probably like a lot of people.

I do find writing a list helpful. I also find breaking down a task helpful too. So instead of just saying have a shower, break it down into small steps. Get towel, undress, turn on shower, etc. It helps too with things like cleaning the house, washing, going down street. If I break it down it seems more manageable.

I know getting mad/frustrated at myself comes from within. It's that voice telling me I should be able to cope. I do realise that we are our own worst enemy. It's something I am working on with my psych, giving myself a beak.

Right now I don't have a lot of capacity. Just getting out of bed seems to be a struggle. Leaving my safe space is hard. I only leave the house if I really have to.

I could take my phone. Just worried about having a good connection if I'm out and about.
