Contracting Diabetes while on anti anxiety medication

Hello Everyone

Dear @Former-Member, hope this thread is ok

As I am asking if anyone has contracted Diabetes while on anti anxiety medication as my Husband is really worried and concerned as he is on anti depressants and anti anxiety medication and has put on weight and wondering how many members have Diabetes

great question!!

I am on AD and anxiety tablets and my doctor is concerned about me getting diabetes. he regularly checks my bloods and wants to lose some weight especially around my waist. So not sure if it is linked to anxiety medication.

weight especially around my waist. -- my mr shaz has a lot around the waist , will check with the doctor will be a good idea

I am borderline diabetes beacuse of the kidney disease

I’ve been on a/d meds for twenty years, diagnosed Type 2 diabetic 12 years ago. It’s a progressive disease that requires careful management, not fun. My father lost a leg and his sight....

My son is at risk due to his anti psychotic medication. We have just joined a mental health push all program through the YMCA called Brightside. It is a free fitness and nutrition program being rolled out and funded by the Commonwealth. Worth a look.

@Shaz51,not on medication,was worried when I was on antidepressants gaining weight but didn't.Was a post someone put on Facebook about how antidepressants can deplete vitamin B, magnesium and chromium etc levels.

@Shaz51 It was almost certainly the Cortisone tablets & injections (long-term) that caused Dad's Diabetes (I have been told).

I have had cortisone injections & tablets myself, with no ill effect - but that was very short-term.

No diabetes here, perhaps there might be a link to inaction with some medications and getting diabetes through inaction but I doubt there is any direct cause.

@Shaz51 one thing is for sure. It has destroyed my natural body and my natural mind. Made me gain 50kgs and totally stripped me of who I'd naturally be. This is why I have violent thoughts toward the system. For good reasons. Eude.
