Daily Mood Journal

Daily Mood Journal

Hi All,

I had an appointment with my PDoc today. She would like me to do a daily journal to try and track my moods...

I was wondering, has anyone done anything like this before?? I'm not too sure what to write. I mean, obviously my mood, but what else???

Does that say more about me or you ... @chookmojo I thought you were a bloke at first ... you were so damn logical ... no offence ... and now I know you are girl .. its even better ... but oh oh ... you are taken and I never mess with those situations ...regardless of sex ... though I do try to bend gender assumptions.

Hi @Crazy_Bug_Lady hope you are going ok ... we girls can be as rational or subjective as we like ... hugs to your heifer

Re: Daily Mood Journal

I still haven't started the journal...

I know I should, but ugh.

I have a journal I write in when there's something major, but I sorta feel I should do this daily mood thing in a different book. Or that's just me and my bad habits. I have books and notepads everywhere that I've used once for something, and never again...

Re: Daily Mood Journal

Hey @Crazy_Bug_Lady,

I'm not doing a daily mood journal but I have taught creative writing to adults. If you are having trouble starting this, you could maybe grab one of those old books or notepads that have been used once before, get rid of the old pages and just start writing something about your moods today. Even a simple paragraph that sums up how the day's been with the ups and downs. You could start writing and let the words come out as they do without revising or thinking too much in advance. Then at the end of it give your overall mood a rating from 0-10, doesn't matter if it's not completely accurate. Done. You might like doing it more than you think and it might reveal some things to you that you don't expect. If you still feel unsure about it after a couple of attempts, I'd suggest asking your PDoc for more specific instructions next time you see them. They may even have printout sheets you could use. Hope this helps in some way.

Re: Daily Mood Journal

Thanks Maz

I bought a new book today. I'm just procrastinating... Once I get into a rhythm with it i'll be fine. It's just the starting that is hard. I have a journal which I write in when I'm in the mood, so i'll still do that, but I figure I'd have more chance of doing this daily thing if I use a different book. It just doesn't feel right I guess, using the journal for mundayne daily things...

I have set an alarm on my phone, that will go off at the same time every day. Hopefully that works to get me into the habit.

@Crazy_Bug_Lady You are onto it, all great ideas.

There. The alarm went off, so I did it.

Tried not to do too much, or overthink it. Or I'll just quit.

Wrote the date... Obviously

How much sleep I got. In the future I plan (hope) to write if it was a bad nights sleep.

Vague rundown of days activities. So just wrote "Work-cleaning day. Off tomorrow"

Then listed any emotions I felt, and what was happening at the time. As none were "overwhelming", I wrote that, and wrote that I was able to rationalise and calm the emotions.

I think and hope that will do...

Re: Daily Mood Journal

I am llike you in that I have books for writing all over the place @Crazy_Bug_Lady... and dont want to mix journalling re a more denotative approach and self assessment. So I tend to do it in my main diary ... I have a big ...week open ... and just make the notes in one part of it in my short hand code ... that way I dont even have to write the date

Am I getting the hang of emoticons ... am I ... am I

Re: Daily Mood Journal

Well done for starting @Crazy_Bug_Lady. Sometimes that's the hardest part. I'm also sure that what you've done will b fine - there really doesn't seem to b a right or wrong way and it will give your pdoc a place to start with you 🙂

I like your approach to the scales @chookmojo 😜 I'm going to be stubborn and say I still don't like them lol
