soul’s year of recovery

soul’s year of recovery

Hi - many of you on the forums know me. Thought it might be time to start a new thread.

2017 was an especially awful year for me. I escaped an extremely violent and abusive relationship fleeing the country where I was living and returning to Australia. My mother passed away and I was ostracised from my family. And lastly, just when I thought I was getting my act together and was on holiday, I sustained an injury from an accident which has left me somewhat incapacitated.

I have found a lot of support here and will continue to lean on those who I have come to know as friends. So come along with me as I try to make this year an improvement on last @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Former-Member @utopia @Bunniekins @Former-Member @Determined @outlander @CheerBear @Maggie @TAB @Sans911 @Former-Member @Former-Member @frog @Former-Member @Bimby2 @Appleblossom and anyone else who has followed my story.

When the clock struck 12 on New Year’s Eve, I made a few resolutions and goals in various areas of my life for the coming year. One thing I wanted to do was to regain was my physical fitness. I had been feeling so strong and well before my accident. I had been walking/jogging for at least 10kms each day and going to yoga sessions seven times a week. After my shattered shoulder and nerve damage through my arm, Yoga is out and I was fortunately able to put my membership on hold. I started walking again this past week and can manage 2kms. My arm is still in a sling and feels as heavy as lead and I can’t manage walking the dog yet. I am trying to be as independent as I can be and have seen progress. At least I can shower myself now. I miss being able to do the things I used to - like driving and even hanging out the washing.

Today was my Mum’s birthday so that was really hard. The kids and I went to the park where her ashes were scattered - the rose bush sporting a single feeble looking bloom. Afterwards, we had lunch together so that was nice.

I’ve had a break from medical stuff over the Christmas New Year period but the appointments start back tomorrow with an EMG where they will put electrodes on me and give me electric shocks to assess the nerve damage. Not really my idea of fun.

Anyway - onwards and upwards. That’s the plan in any case.

@soul

Glad you you are glad for the little things. Your local area sounds great.

Like @Bunniekins I love it when I make porridge. I make it better than mother ever bothered, and its yum and wholesome and like gps. I vary it and eat it in homage to my father. One of my wierd quirks.

Ahhh dear the X

I see ... the discard and the devaluation. Thats what happened to me while I was in marriage. after a year! And I stayed for 16!

Women I pray we can finally anchor ourselves with a Warrior Woman. In the sense of perservering despite those challenges and thriving.

@Faith-and-Hope - you have been through the wringer but I'm sure that you will come through it with your dignity in tact. I was married to a narcissistic and vindictive person.I left the marriage with basically nothing and am now building myself up again.

The Christmas before last, I asked my son who was living with his father, if the little personalised tree decorations were still around. These were ones that I had especially ordered and also ones that the kids had made. My son found them and gave them to me. The ex discovered this and in a rage, messaged me with threats and vile language. Then when I didn't reply, he sent me photo after photo of everything he located from the kids' childhood as he destroyed the items. They meant nothing to him but didn't want me to have them ever. It didn't warrant a response and I have blocked all contact.

He can't take away my memories nor destroy the beautiful relationships that I have with my kids. At get togethers, he is never mentioned and my daughter has not seen or heard from him in years. He too had a secret girlfriend who he had a child with. He was 40 at the time and she was 19. Toxic people have no place in my life.

Thank goodness that your ex is far away from you now. I didn't go through the legal pathways. It can be a long and expensive process and one that would cause me a lot of distress. I just cut my losses and chose to live my life on my terms.

I hope that you can find some happiness because you deserve it. You are a wonderful person.

Oh @soul that is just awful - I am so sorry you were put through so much and all just for the sake of hurting you and no other reason - that is neither right nor fair and my heart goes out to you

@MDT - it's difficult when your colleagues are bullies. It makes them think that they are powerful crushing others. Try not to take it personally. You know your worth.

That sucks @Faith-and-Hope. Financially I got out of the relationship a lot worse off. All sorts of deceit and shady dealings. I guess I just had to let these things go, get up, dust myself off and keep going. You will too for the sake of your kids. They will respect you for your integrity and selflessness.

Thanks @Zoe7 - I hope you're doing okay. I'm thinking that your pets are still a great support in your life. I'm definitely going to be getting another dog when I retire. Might not be for a while but am grateful that I am in good health.

Re: soul’s year of recovery

That must be very stressful @Faith-and-Hope. I know that these things can string out for a long time and I'm sure it's his aim to make it as painful as possible out of spite. Hope that you are able to practise some self care during this process.
