soul’s year of recovery

soul’s year of recovery

Hi - many of you on the forums know me. Thought it might be time to start a new thread.

2017 was an especially awful year for me. I escaped an extremely violent and abusive relationship fleeing the country where I was living and returning to Australia. My mother passed away and I was ostracised from my family. And lastly, just when I thought I was getting my act together and was on holiday, I sustained an injury from an accident which has left me somewhat incapacitated.

I have found a lot of support here and will continue to lean on those who I have come to know as friends. So come along with me as I try to make this year an improvement on last @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Former-Member @utopia @Bunniekins @Former-Member @Determined @outlander @CheerBear @Maggie @TAB @Sans911 @Former-Member @Former-Member @frog @Former-Member @Bimby2 @Appleblossom and anyone else who has followed my story.

When the clock struck 12 on New Year’s Eve, I made a few resolutions and goals in various areas of my life for the coming year. One thing I wanted to do was to regain was my physical fitness. I had been feeling so strong and well before my accident. I had been walking/jogging for at least 10kms each day and going to yoga sessions seven times a week. After my shattered shoulder and nerve damage through my arm, Yoga is out and I was fortunately able to put my membership on hold. I started walking again this past week and can manage 2kms. My arm is still in a sling and feels as heavy as lead and I can’t manage walking the dog yet. I am trying to be as independent as I can be and have seen progress. At least I can shower myself now. I miss being able to do the things I used to - like driving and even hanging out the washing.

Today was my Mum’s birthday so that was really hard. The kids and I went to the park where her ashes were scattered - the rose bush sporting a single feeble looking bloom. Afterwards, we had lunch together so that was nice.

I’ve had a break from medical stuff over the Christmas New Year period but the appointments start back tomorrow with an EMG where they will put electrodes on me and give me electric shocks to assess the nerve damage. Not really my idea of fun.

Anyway - onwards and upwards. That’s the plan in any case.

Two years. March 2019.

Wow that takes me back lol @soul

I worked at both the state and federal elections and they were experience and cash I needed. Really badly.

I also got a job in government around June 2019. Been there since but its been a rough ride. Poorly managed and lots of nepotism. That said I have learned a lot about what I can tolerate and I have made 1 good friend through it which counts l think counts for something. We were unaffected by covid19 at work. I wish more people appreciated that fact there but sadly not. I am the subject of rumours too which doesn't help. But it goes with the territory in such a toxic snake pit. All that said i am happy to be employed still. The experience has had some negatives but maybe 1 or 2 good things.

I did an internship in 2020 and got a few things I wrote about online.

I have also been waiting for a new job application and the result of it. I am really hoping to get it. But will wait and see. If not then I will continue study that I have started in IT. A learning curve but one I think is worthwhile. Its like tech is going anywhere.

One of my cousins got married recently. It was a time where I could see that good things are in the world despite the tragedy.

And maybe I'm doing okay for starters despite what I have been through myself and what I have put up with lately.

Its good to see you soul

@soul

Moved into a bigger house with in-laws. (Attached unit) + mum in law passed (about 2 years ago) kind of sux Mum did not get to enjoy the new house but such is life. Has been the proverbial mouse wheel since then.

I was supposed to finish uni last year but covid changed that plan.

Kind of over study and consided quitting a.couple of weeks ago but student support advisor talked me around. P=Degree is the new approach.

Chipping away and will finish this year finished or not.

Still a long way away from considetimg anything like full time work.

S3 started prep thia year and has blown us all away with how well he is doing.

Pead reccomended special school but school wanted to try main stream supported first. Well he is loving.it and with supports in place doing well. Has a great teacher so grateful for that.

S1&2 travelling along as well as can be expected.

S1 is all excited about getting his licence but..... yeah that is not going.to happen any time soon 😬

Hopimg at next rwview we can get some some sort of ndis funding.g to assist or at least assess probability.

Most exciting thing that has happened is I suffered from.a mid life crisis and went and got my motorcycle licence and a bike. Have wanted one since I got my car licence way back when but always had external opposition and eventually responsibilities that prevented it.. Anyway. Was having a sulk one day about doing everything for everyone elas and nothing for myself (in reality it is not that bad but feels like it sometimea) and launched out and did it without asking for permission or acceptance. It has been one of.the best self care decisions I have made and I now.go riding with my mum. S1 and S1 like short rides but not so much long rides.

Aaaand start of this year darling and I have returned to cycling.

Have been pleased with some weight loss success.

It is good seeing darling starting to enjoy it again. She has not done much of anything since her meltdown period. Life is still pretty bumpy but relatively it is improving.

And we are getting some social time with a riding group datlimg used to ride with.

Hi @soul, We lost touch, blackdog convinces me people don't wanna be round me. But I missed you & wondered how you've been, how's that shoulder is and didnt you find a soul mate, hope that's ok. The forums have become the only real sense of community I've felt for years (on & off when I'm not running away).
You take care xox
Thanks @Shaz51

@Bunniekins - like me, it must give you great joy that your kids are doing alright in their lives. How's the diet going? - Day 1. Make the most of the cooler weather and do some walking. I wore out several pairs of shoes walking out my anguish and listening to music along the way.
Hope that 2021 is a memorable one for you - for all the right reasons ❤️

@Appleblossom - Hopefully you've had more ups than downs. Those wonderful times are ones to cherish. Trust that there will be many more like those. I am truly grateful for not only the major good stuff but also the small things. I am growing tomatoes at the moment. My Dad was an avid vege gardener. This morning I noticed that there were some little green tomatoes on the plants.
