Re: rough time

@outlander, reading this last post makes me think you've got it sorted out.
You've thought about what you want help with and what you don't. What you like and what you don't. And I agree that as patients we don't know exactly what help we want, and we can't - they have all their fancy degrees and years of experience, they know how to treat your illness, not you.
My personal opinion with therapy and my personal experiences, you're going to need to expend quite a bit of time and money to get returns. I've heard rave reviews of DBT from a lot of people. and I know they are covered more by both public and private funding, have you thought about attending one of those courses?

I guess also talk to them about how you didn't feel helped in the past and what help is available to you and how best to reach out to them in future.

Re: rough time

I tend to think i know what i want but when it comes to actually asking for it thats my downfall. Again as people hadnt listened to me at all particularly my last therapist who when i asked for help kept deferring my question and talking about rubbish and id pull her up but she didn't listen to me.
Im on a waiting list for individual dbt therapy but could be many more months yet before im even offerred a place in there. And thats run through the local mh team that i see on wednesday as well.

Thats the other thing. Im scared to physically or even written and given to them saying that i didn't find the help they were giving me was helpful at all. I really kinda just want to start fresh and start over with it all. I guess the first step is speak to my gp and then find a psychologist that works for me.....

Re: rough time

Being able to ask for it is mainly practice @outlander, I'm not saying I can do it, but it's something you need to reach down inside yourself and take little steps. I find writing it down and handing that over useful to me. You might find practicing asking for things in the mirror or saying it aloud a few times. But don't get upset if it's hard, cause it's a hard thing to do and it will get easier over time.
Being able to bring up the issue that what they did was unhelpful is even harder. But it could be really useful if you do. I'd build a connection with them first. Meet with them once or twice before you do this. Get a bit of that trust and knowledge of who they are first.
If your GP good? Do you get along with them? It's super super important to have someone gp psychiatrist psychologist whoever who you connect with. But yes, getting a good connection with your gp is a good first step.

Re: rough time

Thanks for the tips @Former-Member much appreciate.
The gp im speaking to tomorrow is usually good but i find she doesnt know how to help me either. I tried anothe gp but the constant theat of hospital looming didnt help and also she kept making me feel really uncomfortable by asking about my traumas.
I tried a male but was very comfortable and tried another one or 2 but there was no connection. Ill try this gp again and maybe and hopefully get both her and my psychiatrist on the same page. As they werent communicating either.

Re: rough time

Finger crossed outlander.
Relationships can take time to develop. Hopefully they work well together and everything sorts itself out.
I think despite you're nervousness you're in a really good position for tomorrow. Right now it's just sitting with the yucky feelings. Which is hard but can totally be learnt.
I've got to head to bed now, but I wish you luck for tomorrow, I think you'll do fine.
