Sometimes I think certain health professionals just push people in and out the door for the money @outlander and not the actual ongoing care of their patients. It is great you got a second opinion. We have been through many med changes as you would know but one of the ones I am on now is a very old med but has been the one that has worked for me best. It really does come down to our metabolism, resistance and general make- up as to what does and does not work and unfortunately that is so different for everyone. This new pdoc seems to have a much better idea and is helping you though.
I think working in the health professional somewhere would be a good fit for you - especially as you already know what you would not like to do - now it is about narrowing down what you would like to do. I also think teacher aid work would be good for you - you could work with a range of kids and be in an environment with other people in a caring profession too. I also think that having a job where you have set roles and a 'boss' would be good too - it would take off that pressure to run things yourself and deal with clients directly and would also build up connections and relationships with people in the same job.

Re: rough time
this new pdoc does do it quite abit for the money, it was pretty obvious in the first session however as long as he has a better idea which he is seem to have it doesn't really bother me. going in circles all the time with no end in sight or no changes is really frustrating so I am glad I sought out the second opinion. I really didn't want to go back on medications but I have also been told BPD is best managed with medications and then learn to cope because of the extreme emotions that come even with small things. I learnt that very quickly, even those with other mh conditions didn't seem to react as quick or as intensely so maybe medications wouldn't be the worst thing as long as they help which he has agreed with. no use wasting money as these ones aren't on pbs if they aren't going to work. Hes doing a rapid increase where I almost double the dose every week for the next 3 weeks till I hit the max dose providing I don't have those awful side effects. so far so good with no side effects except abit of nausea but it eases through the day so im ok with that. the other pdoc I had always use to pick on my weight- it was the medications I was on, even my nurse and gp was stumped on how to help me as I was exercising more and more, eating so much healthier and also on weight loss medications but it kept pileing on so I called it quits on that. still trying to get rid of it and ive been told my metabolism is abit slower so it takes a lot more work to get back to where I was plus the chance of endo or pcos may be affecting the metabolism and hormones as well. its all quite up in the air atm for that.
im really glad you've got a good med now, it does make a difference even if it takes some time to actually work. my body is sensitive to change as well so im prone to those yuck side effects. im glad so far these ones don't have many or one that I can manage, however it hasn't had much effect as yet but will keep fingers crossed it does.
I did think about teaching, I sometimes find kids quite overwhelming though. my other work I do now involves a lot of kids, sometimes im ok, sometimes it takes a lot out of me. perhaps as I get abit better and more stable though ill be better at handling things abit more. I did think about nursing but not so much in a hospital setting more as a community nurse or a womens health nurse. but I also like other health aspects like nutrition and learning more about essential oils as well. I can get qualifications for these while im caring though so it does make it abit better in ruling things out as well.
yeah I do think a profession where I have set roles and a boss or someone to guide me is abit better suited. I can be my own boss as I do now with my own clients but when it comes to working in other professions having guidance I feel better with. Would there be any courses I could do now that I could try out for teaching like any short taster courses? preferably online for now but maybe with some prac work or something later down the track..

Teacher aids get qualifications through TAFE and it would be a good starter for you to see if you liked working in schools - you could also only work part-time to begin with @outlander Sometimes having that experience first is a good way to go before you jump into a bigger role - especially not having that experience working in a structured environment before. It is also less responsibility but still gives you a sense of community and belonging and that would be good for your self-esteem and connections with people also.
I had that same effect with weight gain from one med I was on too - still only lost about half of the weight I gained but really not concerned about that - more about my MH for now and keeping that as stable as I can.
I am going to head off now for a bit - footy is about to start and my team is playing. I will check in with you later when I can.

Re: rough time
Hi lil Sis @outlander. My day has been OK. I'm in considerable pain atm and even though I've increased the pain medication it's not helping much at all. The nurse came to change a couple of dressings but left others alone as we can see through them and the wounds are stable and clean.
My meeting was OK this morning but unfortunately only a couple of people turned up. It would have been nice to have more. I baked a very tasty lemon yoghurt cake.
Mum and I went to see my brother at his motel. We stayed for a chat and a cuppa but he was extremely tired, so we left him to have a sleep. Mum then dropped me back at home and she continued onto her sister's. She'll be back tommorow afternoon.
I'm struggling to keep my eyes open so I might go to sleep after this post. I'm resting on the bed with the cats. They are having a wash.
