image can't get rid of

Hi everyone

I had a terrible nightmare while in hospital last night. I was admitted as I had a migraine with severe high blood pressure so doctor's decided to keep me in and monitor me.

But I had a terrible nightmare of my brother. He was one of the three guys that had sexually abused me as a child. He was the one who had abused me more than once and at different places.

The look on his face in this nightmare, his hair, the colour of his hair, the look of his face, the stare he was giving me; i can't get it out of my head. The image is so clear.

I have been crying and been very anxious today, not thinking straight. i want this image to disappear forever but it's still here.

the only way i can get rid of it is to SH and end it all. I am very very negative today, playing different negative scenarios in my head of what i can do.

i want his face to go away

Re: image can't get rid of

we wish it could stop for you too BB @BlueBay

NO he can't hurt you anymore - try to imagine HIM as that little child now and you as the adult - you now have the power to stop him - you now have the power to tell him he will never hurt you again - you have the power to be YOU and not fear him

If you continue to see the image then jump back on here BB and we can sit with you again

Never forget...wherever you are and whatever is happening for you (or me) - I am ALWAYS sitting on your shoulder my beautiful yellow flower

Hi @Zoe7 @Former-Member

I had a terrible night sleep. I dreamt that I fell and died. It was terrible. I have woken up feeling tired and not really with it. But i have to go to work, i can't get the day off today.

Hi @BlueBay

That does sound like a terrible night and such a disturbing dream. Please make sure you do something for yourself today, sounds like a bit of self care is needed.

I am pleased that you are reaching out on here for support.

Re: image can't get rid of

That is a horrible dream to have BB

Not that it probably helps you at all right now but those are the kind of dreams that can signify change or moving on from something. Maybe you are subconsciously moving on from the images yesterday- if so, that is a huge step forward @BlueBay

Hi @Former-Member @Zoe7

It was a terrible nightmare, one that i want to forget but am having trouble.

All i can see is my brother's face in front of me, i am trying to stay in the present moment, in the now, but it is difficult. i hate him, so much for what he did to me.

sorry, i shouldn't write stuff on jhere that might upset others.

and then i dream of me dying, WTF is going on???

maybe it is a sign that i am going to die. it has been on my mind a while now.

i don't know, i don't know much at the moment,

i didn't have a good day today at work, i was pretty much on my own kept to myself and just served customers. i didn't really want to talk to anyone.

@BlueBay

I know you are worried about upsetting others, but please be assured that we read this knowing that and that you should feel safe and comfortable here expressing what you need to. If you are really worried you can always start your post with "trigger warning" and that will warn people that it could be upsetting.

I can understand what you are going through, I have had similar experiences. I am glad you got through work, and if that was not talking to people, well you got through.

Are you seeing a psychologist/psychiatrist or counsellor for help. There are many places that can help. If you havent already, I urge you to call 1800 RESPECT. They will help you through your distress in the present moment and understand what we are going through.

Another thing I do is read a script to myself. So it goes something like this...

My name is...., I am ....years old, I live in ......, todays date is......, I know this is not happening to me again becasue I am an adult now and ..........

So write things that will bring you back to the present moment. I read through this script and sometimes I have to read through it 10-15 times before it sinks in.

You might have already tried all this, but just trying to suggest anything I can think off!

Am here for you, please keep reaching for that help

Hi @BlueBay,

Flipper here, one of the moderators. Sounds like you had a really awful dream last night, which can really throw us off for the entire next day. Although you felt you kept to yourself while you were at work, good on you for still going in- maybe it was beneficial to have that distraction for a while.
What strategies do you try to stay in the moment? I find closing my eyes for 10 minutes and progressively tuning in to each of my senses is a nice, quick break to recenter myself.

Always remember these services are available to you for extra support if you find yourself needing it:

Lifeline: 13 11 14 or Crisis Chat

Suicide call back service: 1300 659 467 or online counselling

Beyondblue: 1300 22 4636 or web chat

Mensline: 1300 78 99 78 or online counselling

If in immediate danger: 000

Best,

Flipper

Re: image can't get rid of

Thanks @flipper for your reply and support.

I did chat online to Lifeline last night and they were worried that I was going to do something to myself. They stayed online for a while to help me calm down and by the end i was okay and clam and present in the moment. I was able to go to bed and I slept all night with no nightmares!!

Although i have noticed that my moods are declining and my depression is not good. i have just called my GP to see if i can see him tonight (he is open late tonight) to see if he can help me with reg. to medications.

I just don't feel right.

Re: image can't get rid of

I don't know where you live but there is a clinic for ptsd at westmead hospital which is run by Prof Richard Bryant...a leading academic in this area. Might be an idea to search them out.
