Lessons for the year

Lessons for the year

I actually got this thread off another site and thought what a good idea it was ... so here we go ... what lessons have I learned over the past year.

1. It is okay to be in my fifties and a bit over weight infact it can be fun. I get to eat all the naughty food I want!

2. I can cope without alcohol as a mood stabilizer. I miss it but I don't need it any more.

3. I am a princess and I can do what I bl *#dy well like!

4. It's okay that some people dont like me (like my sister). Can't change it ... why sweat it ... just move on.

5. I like my voices ... I have an angel who calls my name in the morning to wake me up she has the most angelic tone in her voice whilst I have another who growls and carries on ... not too keen on him but I am learning that he is a part of me.

Anway they are some lessons that I have learned I would love to hear what others have learned this year too. It has been a turmultuous year for many of us (me included) here I am wishing for a quieter 2018 for us all xx

Re: Lessons for the year

Lovely idea for a thread little pea @Bunniekins! It is a great grounding exercise and very humbling. Now what have I learned this year:

  • I have learned no matter what you do, you cannot change other people. I learned this in regards to the relationship with my Father. Our relationship is what it is, I cannot change it, no matter how hard I try. It is part of learning acceptance, which I am slowly coming around to.
  • I have learned I am capable. Sometimes that is enough.
  • I have learned I am loved. My in-laws love me, as does my Mrs. I have a few family members (like my cousin), who would cross oceans for me (and vice versa).
  • I learned that although I don't see them often, I have friends who care and support me. I'd do anything for them, as they are almost like family.
  • I have learned not to take health for granted. Sometimes you can't help having a bad day when you live with mh issues.
  • To be aware and if you're confused, ask questions. I think my psychiatrist hates that about me now.
  • I've also learned to hide my wallet when hypomanic! I have a credit card maxed out I didn't even realise I had!

@Queenie Hahahahahaha! I don't have a credit card!!!! What a terrible shock for you to find you had one that was maxed out!!!! Jesus!!!! Good thing I dont have one ... I tend to buy things then give them away or throw them out ... Sigh ...

Yes you cannot change people can you they have to change themselves and some never will ...but wonderful that you have great inlaws and a wonderful partner and family ... how fantastic is that!!

Funny you say that about your psychiatrist I am always asking questions I am sure I am still mostly manic half the time but it is just disguised under a veil of medication.

@Bunniekins I should have guessed something was amiss when all these parcels with my name on it came through the post. Needless to say, I got absolutely EVERYTHING that was on my Mrs' wish list and then some. Apparently, I applied for the card one night when I couldn't sleep... I really need to be supervised on these nights! When I got the statement online, I nearly fainted! Oh well... I won't tell the psychiatrist about it, as he'll have a fit and remind me what risky behaviour that is.

Re: Lessons for the year

Not a thing @Bunniekins. It was all for other people. I think I got a little carried away with the Black Friday sales at the end of November....

I have this habit of going a tad overboard at Christmas. Last Christmas, I bought the Mrs a diamond solitaire ring. She cried for two reasons when she opened it (I think). Reason #1: She was overcome and loved it. Reason #2: She thought how much in debt I must've been over it lol!

Re: Lessons for the year

@Queenie Can you imagine if two bipolar people dated one would do the buying and the other would do the throwing out!

Re: Lessons for the year

Bahahahahahahahaha!!! I shouldn't laugh at that, but I am imagining some sort of cartoon people doing that @Bunniekins!

Re: Lessons for the year

@Queenie That is so sweet but yes I would be firstly saying thank you and then looking for the recept to take it back lol. but if I was manic then I would be giving it away to God only knows who in the streets.
