Twisted -self care

Twisted -self care

Every morning I drive east into the sun.
At traffic lights I put sunscreen on the backs of my hands.
This morning I realised that this is self care,
Very rare for me.
I need to do more of this....

Re: Twisted -self care

Whats been bringing you down?

And don't worry, it took me 8 years to get a 5 year degree!!!

And it's now taking me years and years to get my masters.
Child and Family health sounds really great! What do you learn in that? What did you enjoy? I'm doing public health (and finding it really really hard! And my health is shocking, I've withdrawn from more semesters than I've completed)

Life brings me dow 5-HT and my inability to relate to anyone in real life or forum land without feeling angry/frustrated/excluded/lonely.

Re: Twisted -self care

You seem to be relating to people on forum land just fine to me.
But I totally relate to feeling angry/frustrated/excluded and lonely.
Boy do I know that feeling!!!!!!!
(@NikNik - sorry about earlier..... my rage monster rises around that issue/person)
For me it's kinda about how I'm feeling inside about myself (like the emotions inside of me) and part about my own self talk. I think you're relating just fine, but maybe the other two are letting you down?
Do you see a psychologist?
Have they talked about self talk and all that stuff?

P.S. Sorry if I suck at the supporting/consoling thing. I'm as empathic as a brick wall, so this stuff doesn't come naturally to me.

Re: Twisted -self care

Im probably on my 17 th psych
So yeah, I know about self talk.
You do just fine at supporting /consoling.
Usually no one answers
Not when I really need it anyway.,
I’m making pea soup, that helps.
How is the masters going?

Re: Twisted -self care

Yeah, I find doing a hobby really really helps me when I'm feeling down/a bit off.
Yay for pea soup. I went to a friends house for dinner and they gave me soup for dinner tonight which was really nice.

Urgh... masters is crap. CRAP!
It's going soooo slowly and I'm finding it sooo hard. I'm a science type and it's in the social sciences and I can't do social sciences!!!!!!

What else do you get upto as hobbies/when you're feeling crap?
I'm currently hand sewing a mammoth!

Re: Twisted -self care

I thought about doing my masters @Former-Member but I don’t think there’s really any point since I probably won’t work in my field again.
I have thought about social work or starting a BA.... I don’t know.
I’m knitting a baby blanket,
I like to paint/draw but no motivation at present.

Re: Twisted -self care

That's super exciting @Catcakes, I plan to at some stage in the future to knit a blanket. My mum has half a dozen she's done and my cat and I love snuggling up under them. It's a big project to do a blankie, you must be a good knitter! (or at least more patient and persistent than I am!)

What was your field?

Masters are expensive, but undergrad are still affordable - yay for HECS.

What would you do your BA in? If I could do another degree..... (I'm already doing soo many) I'd do paleontology.

I'm not artistic at all, but there are lots of members on here who are. You should post some of your paintings/drawings, I'd love to see them. I'm so impressed when I see what others have done, I'd never be able to do anything like that. I can't even write legibly, let alone paint!!!

I love to bake when I'm feeling crap. Something simple like a banana cake or whatever. And then give it to someone - a friend, neighbour etc. Makes me feel better.

Re: Twisted -self care

Thanks 5-HT,
You’ve got the reflective listening thing really well and you didn’t even know it.
I was in nursing.
I wouldn’t mind studying art , language,
Very kind of you to give your baking away ❤️👍🏻
Anthropology, or psychology but .... I don’t know.
My post grad was an area of need so I only had to pay for the subject I failed/dropped out of.
I’d also like to do more painting classes but finances/time prevent this at the moment.
Also caring/driving exhausts me....

Re: Twisted -self care

I could tell from your list you had oodles of experience and training and insight. @Catcakes Does not matter how many pdocs. They are just usually people who had easier childhoods and could concentrate on getting quals earlier than us. I am used to be 2nd best. The other girl at school did med. I no longer put them on a pedestal, but when I first saw them I was so needy and alone. Maybe it is the pdocs problem with commitment to you,,, lol ,,, most of the ones I saw early were always trying to get rid of me! I was committed to therapuetic values, and now see that some of their "interventions" were very clumsy lacking and they are lucky I survived some of them. I havent counted all mine up.

For about 10 years, I decided to avoid psychiatrists and only saw a psychologist, but all in all, I probably would not have made it to my ripe old age without all the various counsellors I have seen.

I am a pea soup girl but having steak tonight as I am steadily cleaning out freezer ... potato soup tomorrow.

@Former-Memberis a hunk of gorgeous and a brick wall with a brain and lots of give and take and spring!

I think you both are assets to the forum.

We all have our peccadilloes.

Gradually as we get to know each others rough spots we work around them.

In a way the forum structure is a good way to ease in and out of relationships with others and have space to reflect a bit, but not totally withdraw.
