@Appleblossom
i think i like James Hillman thinking much more than Paul Tillich. The little i know about Tillich's thinking is that he comes across to me as a progressive existentialist because of his inclusion of mystic thinking/awareness. Perhaps a little more along the lines of Kierkegaard's views, for he maintained a spiritual outlook in his thinking too? Would need to shore up on both thinkers to be able to say this with confidence though. (Though i'm not able, or willing. to do that, knowing thinking too much or to deeply in their, what i term 'looping realities,' makes me sick as.)

(i thought i tried clickable bible text for those who like to read what Scriptures says, (the blue underlined parts,) yet if you want to use them please open them in another tab, (right click on link and select open in tab,) for, in my browser at least, the link loads the page over top of the page i'm reading, and i cannot go back, for some strange reason. (Sorry about that i did not realise.))
Do we really believe we can out think the fiend ruling this universe sin? Or is The Truth telling you lies have been outsmarting us since from the Beginning? How can we hope to not taint the very truth we found with our own limited understanding even while dressing ourselves in it?
Can anyone know the names on the Scroll but The Lamb of God? i know that such thinkers, though i love them giving us back the mystic/spiritual/psychological aspect of our existence, they very part i know religion stole from me, but Jesus used very much to teach me to understand his Word, for the spiritual is essential to know God for He is Spirit.
So, for whatever weight my words have Down here, i believe that Tillich, even as thinkers like Alan Watts, have lots of stuff to share with us, but let us not follow their path for we'll end up with the 6 of the spirit of imperfection, instead of Life in the Sevenfold Spirit of God, we receive in, and through Christ.
It is easy to claim godhead when you see ultimate truth. (I done it myself before i realised how silly that is being mortal.) But look what all these thinkers have in common, your own spiritual reductionism before greatness. Zen/Buddha thinkers do the same, get rid of what you do not like about yourself, don't be like this no more, though you are. So in my books such 'enlightenments' always do away with the fatherless and widows of our inner world of being, (and Job missed as well, (Job 38-42:1-6)) and like the world does, exclude us who have life in such identities or labels of self within.
Yet i have learned to understand that God's Universal Salvation begins within. For we are not saved in part, but in ALL of our inner being. (Psalm 86:11-13) Where we from the first lie transforming us untrue, to the last lie trying to steal our identity away, are raised anew in Christ our Saviour. (who ALONE is our TRUE LIFE. ( Col 3:4))
For when Jesus had me living Him Revelation 1 to 7 this is not what He had me live. For all that died in me, Christ resurrects in me in His New through His Truth growing in me. So that where in my life, before i been transformed by His Word in S(s)pirit, i was wrong, no good, ugly, a reject, vessel of dishonour, even devilish in my own (carnal,) eyes, the love of Jesus transformed me completely, over the years me getting to know and love Him. So that what was crooked about me is now straight. And where i was doomed to die, i now rule my life beside Him, and where i was hated by all, including myself, He took me into His glory.
Today this process is ongoing. Where what was first in me, all these years ago where I first met Him, is slowly coming back in sight again. Unbelievable did Jesus make sure I be last, for I needed transformation out of my life in wrong, so profound, that it has taken Him 30 odd years dying me, to reveal this to me. And i know I will love Him forever having grace on me.
This is why i like James Hillman understanding of this much better @Appleblossom i believe our life down here is about surrendering control and giving that what is from of old charge instead. Rather thinking of yourself as progressive, understanding truth as you do, still daily dying your lies in real time and space, with the grave looming.
For where is The Truth of Jesus in such thinking? What about evil mixing through even our 'purest' views, satan's lies making sure we do not see The Truth rightly? Does religion itself not proof such death to our immortality enough? Why would we need Nietzsche constantly remind us, so accurately, that we murder The Truth/God out of our existence so much down here. (Us heeding the lies ruling this planet mortal existence? (1 Cor 15:50-58 This text is clickable.))
Any way this my two bobs worth on this. i like Jacob Lee's song 'Conscience', as well as 'Nevermind' about this, he ponders a lot on this kind of stuff along the lines i do as well. (although i' not always sure we collaborate, i know he has eyes to see.😁)

Who dies their life in lies preserves theri life in Jesus, no spiritual genocide but His resurrection awaits!
Wrote a poem about the death of my big I 30 years ago meeting Jesus in my 'man of sin.' (2 Thess 2:1-12 turned out to be my very best Day instead of my worst one.))
