Struggling to find happiness...

Struggling to find happiness...

...whatever that is! Am I destined to always be ruled by my MI?

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

Oh @Queenie. Sorry to hear you are struggling so much today.
Happiness is small moments throughout the day. Small snippets of time. It's sitting with your wife on the couch - simply being in each others presence. It's the smell of coffee brewing or the colour of a flower. Small glimpses.
You will have your moments of happiness. You just need to get through this tough day.
I'm thinking of you. ♥♥♥

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

Thank you @utopia. I find your words a great comfort. It has been a hard few weeks, culminating in a tough few days. I'd sit with the Wife on the couch, but she is watching Christmas films and they always upset me, so I bow out of that activity. Instead, I am watching random youtube clips and thinking about life in general. I see my psychiatrist in a couple of weeks, so I'll talk to him about what is happening for me, something is amiss.

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

@Queenie. Your psychiatrist should be able to sort out what is wrong & then help you to feel better.
My psychologist tells me to "fake it til I make it". Not always an easy thing to do.
Keep watching youtube clips and doing little things that bring you some peace. ♥

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

hello @Queenie

I haven't seen you about the forums....of course that might be that I have just not been on here when you have...

I think that @utopia expressed beautifully what happiness is about...

sadly christmas films ...in fact most films depict such an unrealistic vision of what happiness is unless it is some murder mystery....crime thriller...or based on a true story...

christmas is a very difficult time for so many people...many people without mental illness struggle....it has become so extravagant and costly...

I notice in myself change happening at this time of year....I feel less grounded....

is there something amiss? or are you feeling what many people feel?

be gentle with yourself

and thank you for being there for me when I needed support....never forgotten...

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

@Former-Member @Queenie - yes Christmas is hard for a lot of us. I can feel myself getting anxious just thinking about it.

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

Hi @utopia my psych says ‘fake it till you make it’ also. I feel like such a fraud though- fake smile, fake happiness and all to not upset others. Especially in the “happy season”. I hope you find some good stuff on YouTube. I’ve been cleaning (my distraction technique) and I found some chalk from when my kids were little. I think I’ll draw all over the porch then hose it off before anyone gets home and laughs at me ‘doing crazy things’ again

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

@Sakurapuss - drawing with chalk is fun. Enjoy. You have to let your inner child out occasionally.
Yes my psychologist says 'fake it til you make it'. But I don't. I'm tired of pretending to be happy when I'm not. So if I'm feeling depressed, it is obvious. If I'm happy or level that is also noticeable. I can't fake it any more. Too exhausting.

Re: Struggling to find happiness...

I disagree wth the psychologist who says "fake it till you make it". Faking it tales up enormous energyand wears you out, especially at this time of year when we are all supposed to be full of "Christmas Cheer" and enjoying the coming festivities. Fake it till you make what? An exhausted, miserable individual feeling pressured to act "normal" . Why can't we be what we are? If I am feeling sad and down I have every right to feel sad and down, and draw on my support group to help me get through tough times.

Being pressured to "fake it" places an enormous burden on us. I hope you have friends around you who understand your situation and who can support you when things are not going so well. You will find many people who will understand and support you on these forums. You don't need to fake it with us.
