your feelings about the use and 'misuse' of food in your life...

your feelings about the use and 'misuse' of food in your life...

Hi Everyone,

@Hope4me had the brilliant idea of starting a discussion about our feelings around food.

I thought we could write about how we feel in order to come to terms with it- like, when you are about to tuck into a unhealthy meal of junk food, what's going through your head? Would you like to share?

This is further to the discussion When food replaces love.

My personal issues are with wine, cheese and cake. I use these foods to comfort myself, habitually. I would say it is a type of addiction and it's somehow related to my anxiety. I have done this since childhood.

I have mixed feelings about talking about it.... mainly, I think I don't want to encourage others to feel critical of themselves... I certainly don't believe that you need to be a certain weight to be happy, or that there are 'bad' foods that you must always avoid!

There is nothing wrong with eating cake, if you really do enjoy it and you are not misusing the cake to fill an emotional need.

Good morning @Sahara @Appleblossom @TAB @Shaz51 @Faith-and-Hope

I've read your posts about ancestory and not having 'enough'.

Due to my childhood, I have respect, gratitude and an understanding of what 'going without' truly means. So, I gained great creative cooking skills with a scarce pantry.

Prior to the insurgence of cooking shows on TV, Lamb Shanks were dog or peasant food! They were 25c each when I was 20 and were a staple on my table due to being so cheap. Now they're sold per kilo which is a sham!

Fast food's 'convenient', cheap and easily accessible. Fish 'n chips on a Saturday in the park has evolved into a 24/7 obsession.

Sure, we don't put a pound of butter on the table for people to slice and put on their vegies, or a huge loaf of bread with each meal. But I do miss preserved fruit with ice-cream after dinner and a roast for lunch with the family on Sundays.

I miss company; I guess fast food replaces those get-togethers. Living alone in the new millenium sucks!

Hope x

Yes it surely does re new millennium and living alone @hopeforme. Done a bit of choice modification and intake reduction last week. Am buying scales tomorrow. Hoping possibly inflated figure when weighed self wk before last is 6kg less. Could be 4 see what happens. Anyway whatever the remaining number is is too much anyway but am sorta confident of a semi pleasant surprise.
Yes, remember funny looks at butcher 1997 then he charged 30c then 60. He closed down not long after then they were $7kg at BiLo down the road re lamb shanks . Its a different cut now which sorta defeats original use , to put in soup. They are so big now

Yeah...you guys get it! @Shaz51 @TAB

My son hates me bringing up the past and its good/bad. But living it I can't un-remember. I've tried to instil some of what I've learned from doing it hard, but he constantly says it doesn't affect him like that now.

It's more fear than anything, that life as we know it will come crashing down and he'll suffer due to lack of survival skills. Also is the hope that one day he'll invite me for Sunday Lunch Roast.

Hope x

Hey @TAB

It's great you're on the path to wellness! Kudos! Throw those bloody scales away and measure your waist instead. Muscle weighs more than fat and can be discouraging when the scales don't move.

It's the fat around our tummies that's not healthy. You can see mine walking around a corner before the rest of me. lol
