Something’s not right

Suicidal ideation

Suicidal ideation

Hello,

I would like to share my experiences and point of view regarding a subject that is always dealt with very delicately and often not discussed.

A friend told me yesterday about having suicidal thoughts. I know I’ve done all I can to help him, but I’m still worried and it has brought back my own raw wounds of suicidal ideation. It’s been over a month now that the day has passed that I had set. The sorting & throwing frenzy I went through beforehand shows me every day, that I was trying to make it easier for the people I would have left behind. I had given myself one more month to make changes and find solutions. My psychiatrist talked me into 6 month.

Much has changed since. I have spoken to my closest about suicide. I have seen many tears, have been sworn at and wrote their key messages in my suicide prevention plan. It was one exhausting conversation after another but I have learnt that I had a major thinking error.

Since talking about the subject honestly and seriously I feel very raw and extremely vulnerable. I think for me admitting I was so sick of myself and lost all worth and hope, took me to my lowest.

I haven’t recovered from the numbness that followed and the absolute loss of all options. I had gone through all my options and decided on a final choice, but now I still sit here and don’t know how to continue.

I’ve gone back to basics and just live by the day or the hour and hope that sense will return.

To anyone out here who is thinking about the last option, ask for help. I think each and everyone of us is worth it to ask for help and give it a few last considerations and conversations. From my experience I can only share that i received support from online resources like suicide call back and my care team was great. I was terrified to be admitted to hospital and was offered the option many times, but I was always safe enough not to be scheduled. That was my biggest fear, that someone would take away my choice, but all I received was support. Don’t be afraid to take the step.

Re: Suicidal ideation

@Former-Member a very important topic.

Last year and earlier this year I had suicidal ideation and I went to hospital. A private clinic.

Then later this year, the suicidal ideation turned into real planning. Again I went to hospital. Only this time it wasn't my choice. I was too far into my depression and suicidal planning that I didn't think there was any help. But my psychologist told me I either go back to the private clinic or he puts me into the local public hospital. (for many many reasons I cannot go to the local public hospital).

At the private clinic, I got a new psychiatrist to look after me and he put me on new anti depressants. Wow. Suicidal thoughts are now gone. A big relief now that I look back. I still strugle with depression and anxiety, but no more thoughts of suicide.

Last time, I was too sick to know how sick I was, if you know what i mean. So now, we are keeping an eye on me, and at the first signs of suicidal thinking, i'll head back to the clinic.

Hey @Former-Member and @utopia,

When I confided in my dear friend, who was a University student, that I felt suicidal. He told me that ' suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.' And that snapped me out of it.

Also because of my Christian faith, I now consider my body as not mine, but the Temple of God. So I have to take special care of it. Self-caring is very important and my old psychologist explained it's importance to me.

Take good care.

I think you have it right @BambiFawn. You need to find the one thing that will prevent you from following through on your suicidal thoughts. For you that is your God. For others it may be their children, friends, family. The sense somewhere in the back of their head, that things will get better.

If that doesn't help, then people need to reach out and get the help they need

Re: Suicidal ideation

Such an important discussion. It helps me put other posts you have made in perspective. Thank you @Former-Member

@utopia's right and @BambiFawn you are too,

The solutions are individual so it never matters that similar discussions occur.

The ground is always fresh and worth exploring if there is a potential for death or life.

Now I look back over my battles with Suicidal ideation. I cannot believe how I survived the intensity and completeness of my obssessions without proper help.

I am amazed I have survived and glad @utopia @Former-Member @BambiFawn and many others on the forum and elsewhere on the planet are still alive.

Maybe it is the plague of the 21st century.

@utopia @BambiFawn and @Appleblossom

I am glad you have all managed to get through your phases of SI.

The last time I talked to suicidecallback I had no “last reason” to live. They said it is ok as long as I keep believing that one day there will be a reason again.

I live for people who love me. I hate myself and I don’t want to live, but maybe, just maybe, everyone is right and I will eventually recover.

Re: Suicidal ideation

@Former-Member. I like what that ph counselor said ..... keep believing that one day there will be a reason. That's powerful.

Re: Suicidal ideation

@Former-MemberI am glad you do have people around who value you as a person.

One day you may be able to shift the sense of hate to genuine self care.

Thinking of you @Former-Member @BambiFawn @Bubbles3 @utopia

I had some strange turning the corner ideations about my own SI. Cant explain just yet, but hopeful my SI will recede even more with ongoing support.

I am so glad you are all still here, still fighting. Keep searching for your reasons... please..

Sometimes they are hard to find. Sometimes they are right under your nose.

It might seem cliche, but my little boy is my reason.

He is sleeping next to me right now. His little body is snuggled into my side and I'm listening to his every breath. He recharges my soul to get me through the darkness of the night to morning.

I used to think he was a reason to leave - that I was no good and he was better without me.. but one day a neighbour (who had lost someone to S) recognised that look in my eyes and said "I know you think you are going to end the pain, but you won't, you are just going to transfer it onto everyone you leave behind." Her words ring in my ears to this day.. and just like that..standing on my front lawn.. I had my reason. Turns out he was there all along
