Re: A battle with anxiety attacks
Hi @Evie1
Anxiety attacks are terrible things, I so feel for you. I went through a long period where they became overwhelming for me. I dreaded them and they were debilitating. There can be many different reasons for them stemming from depression, grief, trauma, abuse, constant worry and catastrophe thinking (thinking the worse will happen), a chemical brain imbalance or damage to frontal lobes, hormonal imbalance, substance abuse, physical illness and the list can go on. And they can be terrifying.
I eventually found a good anti-d that helped with anxiety attacks a lot. Also learning to talk back to the fearful thoughts with more positive ones helped. And slow breathing when able (sometimes they became too bad for that). CBT counselling with a qualified psychologist is usually the best long term treatment plan for dealing with anxiety. Keeping my mind and body active on other things helped them to pass quicker. Building self confidence helped. I am now a lot calmer and more in control - rather than the anxiety controlling me and the attacks now are infrequent.
Do you see anyone about your anxiety? Are you on any medication?
You will find many on here like myself who can relate. They will jump on here soon and share also with you and perhaps offer other suggestions that may help. Please know that you are not alone. Keep talking here if it helps. If the attacks get worse please go to your nearest hospital as they will also assist. Sending you a warm hug 🤗

Are you feeling more settled now. It can take hours to settle back to 'normal'.

Also let your psychologist know about your suicidal thoughts. This is expecially important. As you stated, those thoughts can be very scary & you shouldn't have to deal with them in your own. Your psychologist can help you with that.
