The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Change his food @outlander. Which I've just done. The vet wasn't very happy I bought a cheaper supermarket brand, but I couldn't afford anything else. I don't even have any cat litter left until I have money on Wed hopefully

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlanderI was on your usual thread and about to ask you exactly the same thing!!!!!

Then I cheated and looked at this site on my phone haha! So I raced over here.

I am okish. Got a mild headache which is probably because I am dehaydrated and it was 31 here today. I often don't drink enough water. I don't like it. I am still very, very tired.

I think that was the most I have written in this forum for a very long time. I surprised myself as my brain is in a fog a lot of the time. Ah, the delights of medication. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I know you had a really tough morning, but how are you dealing with your Nan today? Did you do anything I suggested. And how are you right now?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Lol i do that alot too @Sans911
Its been cold here and had storms and rain earlier on but the days have only been mid 20s ao its been ok. Have you tried the flavoured waters or tried putting pieces of fruit in water and freezing then like an ice block? Might be better for taste or abit of cordial but make it weak.
I love reading your posts to anyone. They are always so good. Im jealous half the time though not in a bad way just wish i had half the brains of some here.
Do you think youll sleep tonight?

It hasnt been a good day. I know you wont let me slide past the question but im having trouble answering how im coping both today and right now. Im okayish considering everything i guess . I lit the candle but i didn't write i havent had the energy to couldnt even make it to her grave today. Having the same trouble as snowie. Wrote this post about 5 times and deleted most of it cause i just dont know and youve heard enough of my crap.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlanderDo you really want me to answer that last sentence? Because it's not true at all. And trust me, I have listened to so many people's woes in my career, it's a non issue. I will always listen. Just post your post, no filter, no edit. See what happens. Just do it. I rarely edit my posts or delete them. What is in my head and heart is there.

Yep, tried all those tricks with water. And I am still not great. I have about 5 water bottles!

Thank you for the compliment. You are better than you think you are lil Sis. I have learnt in life to take compliments when you get them. But I am much better giving than receiving.

Are you safe tonight? And what really happened this morning? What was it all about?

Do those things for your nan sometime this week. It's ok. Have you eaten some dinner tonight? What's your plans tommorrow?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Yeh i knew that was coming @Sans911 i cant edit anyway im on my phone but i cant get it to make sense atm.
Hmm will have to think of other ways- have you tried hydralite (or however you spell it)?

What do you mean what really happened this morning....?
Yeh i had a snack for dinner. Dont feel like much tonight or at all.
My plans have changed but atm ill be watching sisters and trying to do a few things that are going to be harder than they need to be as ill have yo drag them along until mums done at work. Hopefully before 2 would be really great. Need to do xrays and wait for films but might have to do them then pick up films later. Will need to ask if they can do it with my splint on or not.

And you?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

It's just I worry about you being so tired @outlander and crashing your car. And hurting yourself. Badly. Something has to shift for you soon.

I didn't have much dinner either. Just no appetite really. Even for the lovely soup I made.

I think you will have to take the splint off for xray.

Are you going to be ok if I go @outlander?

I haven't even taken meds and I am struggling.
