The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Hi @Sans911 ,

I have a feeling that I hurt you. After the last time I posted to you (after I rode in on a white steed to try to save the day) I got the feeling it made it harder for you. I am very caught up with how to be on the forum and not keep running away. I know my stuff is for different reasons to yours. I promise no more white steeds for a bit but I can't promise not dropping out often yet. It never has anything to do with members here. I just have lots of mental barriers still but they are mine alone. I have got running away down to a precision art for which I'm not proud.

I am truly sorry if I've hurt you in anyway or if you've felt misunderstood because I missed the mark. I never want that. If I post it's always from the heart but my need to fix things on a dime often means that I'm problem solving and trying to find a way to take the hurt rather than maybe doing the long hard listening.

ive recently listened to a podcast about apologising and learned a lot. This apology comes from me but it's for you. I don't need a response or anything in return. I hope things get better for you. It's been a long hard road again. Hang on to the love and light if you can.

Big squishy bear hugs 💜🤗

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I didn't intend on coming back here tonight, because in doing so I've triggered myself, got upset and then in the space of a few minutes been triggered by an outside noise. But I can't leave your post unanswered and have you thinking there's some way you contributed to me not being here.

I was struggling before your return @Teej as there had been some tense moments on the forum, and little intervention. I took time out as I was a bit weary of the tension, lots of issues with a few particular members and I needed space to process things.

The forums have seen enormous growth recently, and many members who join are desperate for answers and looking to connect with like minded people. So they tend to be quite intense. Then they settle after a while of finding people to connect with and getting the answers they need.

This intense growth has changed the dynamics of the forums immensely, and not necessarily in a bad way. It is what it is. But in that shuffle and shift, I've lost some connections as older members have shifted their focus to new members needs. My forum world has shrunk a little, and it was never that big to start with. Other members I felt a connection with have left or taken time out.

You are an important connection to me. Your time away from the forum has left me with feelings of sadness and loss, but I also understand it's your self care time. And I've no right to demand you to be here. So you came back, very briefly, and I was so excited to see you. And then you left again. And I felt sad. As I always feel sad when people leave.

And people leaving in my life is a very common theme. So I try to leave first if I can see it coming. That way I don't feel the pain so deeply. And I've yet to accept that in these forums we will make intense connections. And people will leave for whatever reasons they wish. And I will have to bear those losses as painfully as if they were real life connections.

While I appreciate your apology it's really not needed. But there is much truth in many of your words.

I hope you get better too, and even when we think we won't be able to get better, we learn along the way.

Much love 💖💖

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Thanks for your response @Sans911 , I really appreciate your honesty. I left for similar reasons. It got harder for me to stay connected and try to work out an offline life. I couldn't compete with the enormity of the forums and to tell the truth I still can't. Like you stated more of my time was turned back to new members which was my comfort zone because I didn't carry as much guilt about trying to juggle all the online relationships. I got quite twisted up with lots.

For me for now I think I need to do what I can in a haphazard way. I want to be here to support others, I want to keep some connections and I want to try and get a life that's not online. I'm not doing so great getting that balance. The good part is that I lost that heavy heart stuff and am coping better with being here now. It's just I can't meet my expectations that brings guilt but for now I'm good to work on that.

Do what you need to do for self care. I can hear that discomfort and stressful situations have taken their toll. I was so very overloaded when I pulled back. It was so helpful for me to have a complete break. If that's what will help you then please do that as well. You deserve a chance to breathe again and find your feet again for what ever is important.

more squishy hugs incoming. 💜🤗
