The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Hey @Former-Member we can hear you're upset. Our email communicated that we were concerned about some of the things you've told us over email, about the impact of your forum use on your mental health and wellbeing. We asked you to consider if the forums were somewhere that was having more harm than good on you at the moment. Until we hear back from you, it looks like you've got a lot of solid support from your peers here online 😊 We would encourage you be mindful as to how it may affect them when they're missing a bit of context as to what's happening behind the scenes, this is why we encourage all members to try and continue communication with us on e-mail about individual forum concerns.

If anyone needs support or is struggling with forum interactions, please know you can reach out to the moderator team via team@saneforums.org

@Former-Member re your message here to me on 14th May. Yes I was upset, very much so.

I definitely felt as though you were pushing me off the forums, which hurt a lot. I realise upon reflection that you were trying to urge me to take some time out, because I was struggling with a number of things. Including a lot of major discord happening around a number of threads. I know many others were affected by that too.

Anyway, because I was very troubled at the time, I did not interpret your email the way it was likely intended at all. Instead your words screamed out to me ... "you are not wanted here, we do not want you here and will find a way to force you off".

For your information and, as I have told you many times before ... the forums form a vital part of my support. People here listen, understand and support. Many members here are like family to me, I care about them a lot and value their support and friendship immensely. And I like to think that I do the same for others, when I'm able to.

So when it appeared to me that you were forcing me off the forums, I panicked and had a major melt down. In the past, it has been when I have been most distressed, vulnerable and in need of support .. that the rug has been pulled from underneath me. I was cut off from all supports. I was left with nothing then, and in all honesty I was lucky to survive those times. When I got your email, all I could see Nashy, was history repeating itself, and that happening all over again.

I do apologise @Former-Member most sincerely. You, @s-jay and @Former-Member have always been very fair, patient and up-front with me. You have put up with my insecurities and constant need for reassurance around membership here for a very long time now. Which must be a right pain in the butt for you all. I guess .. if you haven't banned me yet .. then perhaps you never will? Certainly I have given you just cause to do so ... if you choose. I need to get that through my thick head, and try to get over the past wrongs committed against me elsewhere. After all ... here is not there. I will in future be sure to email you and your team directly around any concerns.

Anyone who was affected by my posts on 13th May .. my apologies if I caused any hurt or distress to any of you. I was not deliberately misleading anyone @Sans911 , I was speaking the truth as I saw and felt it. I'm sorry if that made supporting me a challenge, and I thank you for trying. I never deliberately misled anyone, but I guess sometimes my thinking can become a little twisted around these things. I wish that wasn't the case, but hey... MH and past traumas really suck! I continue to work on improving it though.

@outlander @eth @Bunniekins @Snowie @Shaz51 @Zoe7 @Faith-and-Hope @Teej @Maggie @CheerBear @Former-Member @Owlunar @Former-Member @Lee82 and anyone else I may have impacted with my posts from 13th May. My sincere apologies.

@Former-Member

Now I understand better why you became so upset. I am glad you returned and are still here, and it takes courage to explain it all like you have. Misunderstandings can be so easy when we are running on empty or fragile and vulnerable. You also have a lot of warmth and good will you spread around the forums and we need you.

@TeejHugs. I need to work on some daily habits too . Working myself up to that one ,, ha ha .

Its good your MH is generally alright. Makes a difference to know that. Enjoy your time off.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@Former-Member - I never felt misled by you at all, but I didn't know exactly what was going on in your email exchanges with the moderators. So I didn't have the full story, and when I was given that by the moderators, I understood a lot better what was happening for you. You also never hurt my feelings or offended me either. I was concerned, like you've just said yourself, that you were reading far too much into the situation and feeling insecure and uncertain. However, nothing I or anyone did could reassure you or make you feel different. You took time out from the forums feeling hurt, misunderstood and uncertain of your future here. But you also reflected in that time, and you saw that things weren't necessarily as they first appeared. Yes, it was a challenge to support you at that time, but I could have easily walked away as well. So it was my choice to stay and offer you support. I offered it without expectations.

Thank you for your post, but it wasn't necessary to apologise to me. I hope though the reflection and your post has helped you come to terms with things you might be uncomfortable with. I will continue to be of support whenever you need it. And you have my friendship as well.

Much love and hugs 💕 💕

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Sherry, I completely understand where you were at because I am there right now. Firstly definitely no apology needed, you have done nothing to apologise for in my eyes anyway. I said it to Lee once that navigating the fourms are a tough gig. You are so such value here, your support means so much to me and countless others. Thank you for being you, I was trying to word that differently but it all comes down to your beautiful soul and you being you.

I recently received an email for the mods and now I am questioning my suitably to be a member of the forums. I am now spending countless hours worrying that what I have posted has caused distress, triggered or otherwise affected my family here. The very last thing I want to ever do to any of you wonderfully supportive people. So your post has given me the opportunity now to apologise, because I didn't know weather it was ok to do so. Please know that you all have had such a positive effect not only on me but for my mental health. I have never used my DID as an excuse for anything and am not going to start now. So to you @Former-Member @Sans911 @Bunniekins @Appleblossom @Lee82 @Zoe7 @outlander @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Snowie @Maggie @Purplerain and anyone else that I may have affected in anyway. Thank you Sherry for all your support my beautiful friend 💜Izzy

@Former-Member Hey sometimes it takes a bit longer to get to know people. I will be honest and say I felt that way about you DizzyIzzy but now that I know you and your heart of gold ( because you are a star shining in the night girl) I hope you count me as one of your many friends as you are to me 🙂

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I just have one thing to say and that is we are all here for the same reason and that is for support. We are all going through a really rough time and sometimes I feel like the only way we can get the support we need is to explain what is going on for us as best we can within the guidelines. That can be extremely tricky at times but we all do our best to explain it in a way that doesn't affect, trigger or hurt anyone. If we do get upset or hurt it's only because we care so much about each other we don't want anyone feeling the pain they are feeling.
@Former-Member @Former-Member you both have done nothing wrong by posting anything you have posted in the past. If we can't be honest here with each other and try and get the support we need from the people who know best what it feels like then where else can we go for help. I know for me I have absolutely nowhere else to express how I am feeling, what I am thinking and what goes on for me physically but here and yes some days I don't post anything because I feel like I may get into trouble by the mods for expressing what's going on for me and also I get worried about affecting anyone else. I hope that both of you still feel comfortable enough to reach out to your forum family here and ask for support. I don't know what I would without you here.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

To @Lee82 @Sans911 @Former-Member @Former-Member and others here,

Although I have only just read the most recent posts, I have to say I love everybody's openness and honesty. MH can be quite challenging, particularly in isolation, but in forums like this, it's great to know we are not alone.

Thank you everyone.

Cheers,

BPDSurvivor.
