The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

At least you're getting a small break from your pop. Ouch re:ovarian cyst rupture. What do you need to do about that? Hospital?

I've had a busyish day. Zoom meeting with some mh peers and advocates this morning. That was productive. Had another zoom meeting this afternoon to play scattergories. But I didn't feel very included, and so I left after an hour. Then my mood has dipped considerably since. I had a nap for a couple of hours too.

If i didn't have the kids or someone could watch them i would be at the hospital @Sans911
Ive had one rupture before but this one feels worse. Im going to check for a female gp in my area tomorrow for a checkup. Usually they do an internal US but to sore for that so hopefully they dont ask for one. The nurse said if the pain doesnt settle to a more manageable level in the next few hours, gets worse, fevers etc then to go to the ED for a checkup sooner. Till then heat packs and pain relief. I would usually use my other prescibed pills from when it happened before or regular cyclic pains but i cant cause they are also anti-inflammatory and i cant tske them with the way my stomach is. Regular otc meds took more then an hr to work snd only got an hrs relief, still got another hour before i hit the 4 hr mark to take them again. Feels like my uterus and the rest are going to fall out :face_with_rolling_eyes:🤦‍♀️

Im glad the first meeting was good at least. Im sorry about the second one though. What on earth is scatttergories? Ive never heard of that one!

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Scattergories is a word game. It is played with letters of the alphabet and each turn a letter is picked and you have to pick a word for the 12 categories each time. So like if you got the letter T, and one category was electric appliances, that could be toaster. You can use the same word for several categories. You have 3minutes each turn to find a word for all 12 categories. So not easy. Then points are awarded for each answer.

Geez, I wish you didn't have to look after your sisters @outlander. Sounds like a trip to emergency is needed.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Wow interesting but also challanging game! @Sans911 i dont think ive got the brain for that lol.

Im really trying to avoid the ed. As long as theres no signs of infections and i can pain manage at home its a good sign. That is what im very much hoping for 🙏🙏
The worst is usually over overnight but still have to rest a few days.

Have you got anything on for tomorrow? I know your nurse should be coming? Are some of your wounds healing?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I don't think emergency does much except pain relief anyway unless like you say there's infection, and then it might be strong medications or surgery.

I wasn't very good at the game today. My brain was tired.

No nurse tomorrow @outlander. Back to the hospital clinic and to see the plastic surgeon. Wounds are healing faster on the right then the left (always been that way) and belly ones are pretty much healed. Still very slow progress though. I'm not sure if they will continue with the community nurses for a little bit longer but I would like to. It just takes a little bit of responsibility and pressure of me, and they can monitor progress better than me.

And my support worker is tomorrow too. Wednesday afternoon I head off to my uncle's place which is a couple of hours south of the city. I'll meet my mother there, stay overnight and come back Thursday with mum.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Yeah there's not much they can do unless its surgery or Iv treatments for severe cases. I dont have excessive ble..eding or anything fevers etc, ill keep an eye things, will speak to a gp tomorrow like the nurse said too. Very sucky and painful.

Oh im glad they are healing. Hopefully if you say youd really like them to keep coming the surgeon might agree. Im really glad theres finally some healing for you even if its slow.
An overnight stay at your uncles sounds good. Its been a long time since any travel or visits have been allowed hey. @Sans911
