The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Wonderful job @Sans911 That is a pretty big list but you have achieved nearly all you set out ot do this afternoon/evening 👍 You sound nearly ready to tackle your busy day tomorrow so being pre-prepared should make the day a little easier. Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Thanks @Zoe7. I attended a charity place today just for women who need decent clothing for either interviews or starting work. Sometimes there is a cost but being on DSP and with a job provider means the government will fund it. All their clothing is really good quality, even designer stuff. It's run by volunteers. And they also do workshops on resumes, interview skills, etc.

I went there this afternoon, and had a really lovely lady help me pick out a pair of trousers and 3 x tops. One of the tops still had a tag. And I also got a nice pair of shoes. They would have given me a handbag but I have a new one that I will use. It's such a wonderful service.

I have heard of those places and that service before @Sans911 - such a wonderful thing for women to be able to access and great that you have some new clothes to help out with your interviews. I hope it helps you feel that little extra bit special and is encouraging for you in your interview tomorrow

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

It does make me feel more confident @Zoe7. The lady was so full of compliments and I actually took a top that had colours I wouldn't ordinarily look at.

You are up very late sweetie. At you at the end of whatever you are doing?

I've just got into bed, but before I did Jasper did a huge, revolting vomit. My poor boy just can't win. He alternates between being really hungry & meowing non stop until I feed him several times. And then he can't keep it down. I think he's in a bit of pain too as he does not want to eat other times. His belly feels odd too. Not smooth like most cats. Kinda lumpy. Next week can't come fast enough.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I was up late @Sans911 Fell asleep not long after I got home so had to catch up on some work. It is a long weekend for us now so I am hoping to catch up on work over the next 3 days - and have reports to do before Wednesday so it is going to be pretty full on. I hope your interview went well today and you got everything else done you needed to. Certainly been thinking of you today

Jasper does not sound very good at all - hope you get some answers next week for the poor little fella. I can imagine how hard it is watching him go through this and the fear of what may be to come - sending you positive vibes for both of you

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Not long home from my interview. I think I messed it up a couple of times. And the fact I'm not fully recovered from surgery might go against me in terms of physical fitness. I don't feel good mentally at all, and I'm on the verge of tears. Of course I'm likely catastrophising and overreacting. My stupid brain doesn't want to deal with these emotions and has gone straight to thoughts of sh. But I won't. I'll have a nap instead.

So very worried about Jasper. He ate a goid breakfast. But he's so thin. And all he does is sit or sleep. He's nit playful or interactive much. He's been quite a sook lately. Follows me about the house. I hope he can be treated. That's also got me on the verge of tears.

I'll be back later

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

You probably went better at the interview than you think @Sans911 but we also often know if it has not gone as well as it could. I hope you have managed some rest and that helps you feel a little better.

I can tell how very worried you are about Jasper - and I would be too Hon. We wish that our fur babies could talk to us and let us know what is happening hey. Much love to you both and Mr A also

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@Sans911cry away hun if is helps.

Like Zoe said you probably did better then you thought. We always seem to think the worse in ourselves with things like interviews (and everything for that matter).

I hope Jasper is ok and you can get to the bottom of the problems.

Lots of big squishy hugs and love hun.
