The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

@outlanderI am not here to offer support much, there is so many things not right (with me) and I can't explain because it would all come out wrong. I am just so out of sorts lately- or this is just the way I always feel.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

it might not seem like it to you @Sans911 but i do find you here and supporting others. i know that in a day it feels like so much has passed that it can be hard to catch up making it seem like youve missed out on so much and dont know what to do but i would rather be here chatting to you about wats bothering you or daily occurances or whatever you would like to talk about rather than ask for your support.(which you are always with me anyway even when your not) your supports to others here are solid. you come out with some cracker posts- seriously some of the posts i see you write to others never ceases to amaze me. also if you find your missing alot, just post on the thread like most do inlcuding me- i havent caught up on your thread yet but how are you today/night?

your also going through alot, so i am not really surprised your out of sorts lately. would it help to talk about one thing at a time? or the one/two things that are bothering you the most?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Hello @MDT - That is an interesting question no one has asked. I started this thread when I started to turn a very short corner after my last major attempt & finding alternatives to suicide, suicidal ideation and self harm. It's essentially about when i made a more concerted effort to live, rather than die or survive one shi**ty day to another. I don't feel stuck anymore, but I don't feel I am on the road to recovery. So I guess this is the challenges of finding a way out of the mental illness muddle. My days are getting better, but struggles are still everywhere, desppite my days having more pleasure and purpose. So I hope that made sense

Interesting @Sans911
Mind if I read along?
I think I tagged you on my new one about order and chaos as well but either way I would be happy to read where you are at. I know what you mean in relation to all that stuff yeh. One shitty day at a time isn't fun at all

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

That's one thing that bothers me lil Sis @outlander. I find it quite challenging to catch up with what is happening with people I care about. I mostly keep up with you and @Snowie. But I want to see what is happening in others lives too, however, there is often too much going on to read far enough back to keep up. And that saddens me, as I don't want people to think I don't care. I care as much as before.

And right now, I am trying to keep a really tight lid on many emotions due to my current situation, and that is really trying and emotionally exhausting. But I can't afford to open that lid until after next weekend, and I am a little scared to as well, as I don't know what will happen to me in terms of my mental health. I wonder if I will be ok, or if I will crumble. My financial situation from this week onwards is about to become super difficult, and I have to really focus a lot of thinking about keeping costs down as much as possible. And I don't like living with that kind of stress, where I have to think about 'do I reaaly need this, can I do without' and 'can I afford this cup of coffee?'. Living like that is awful, but it just has to be like that for a while.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

i know it does sis, i find it hard too @Sans911 theres nothing wrong with posting on the thread and saying 'sorry i havent been around much, can you give me a qucik fill in on whats been happening anf how you are' youll be surprised with how many will be obliged to give you a quick fill in. do you think you could give that ago even on one extra thread or 2? then you dont have to catch up on the entire convo either so much quicker when theres alot going on. what are your thoughts on that? then try to spend an hr here responding to threads then log off and have a break. an hr doesnt seem like a long time but with those quick catch up posts you can get through quite abit.

your financial situtation must be really scary for you too, perhaps you can get some extra assitances as well? but im sure youve covered that too- just thinking outloud abit.

ok well if you crumble- the option of respite and hosp it there- theres options for your cats too that you mgiht be able to take a look into as a 'just in case' its not easy what your going through. your empathy for others wont allow you to be heartless and numb to the things that are happening. you are human afterall yeh.

would i help if you worked through a more self care type plan with me/us tonight/tomorrow?
