The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

@Snowie @outlander @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51 @CheerBear @Teej @MDT... and anyone else I might have missed.

It's been a very long, stressful day with a lot of driving around. Jasper was in surgery for a couple of hours. There was no obstruction to be found but part of his intestines were so inflamed that it was partially obstructing. They took biopsies which they'll have the results of early next week and formulate a treatment plan going forward. I had to collect him from the vet when they closed and take him to another emergency vet overnight. Then I will collect him early in the morning and take him back to the vet that operated on him until he can hopefully come home tommorow evening. In the last two days I've been to four vets. My head is spinning and my emergency savings is almost drained.

I was due to pick up my mother from the airport this afternoon as well, but I had a very long wait at the emergency vet. She wasn't happy but we went out and had a nice meal before I dropped her off at her accommodation.

Mr A is lapping up the attention as he has me all to himself. I so want to have a good cry, and the tears are close, but they won't fall. Especially as a few people have suggested I euthanise Jasper instead of spending money on him. That really hurts.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

No need to be sorry about a forgotten tag @Sans911 - you have more important things on your mind Hon. There is some good news about Jasper - I honestly was fearful that he wouldn't make it through surgery so have very much been thinking about both of you all day. So glad the news is more hopeful I can fully understand your hurt at people saying he should be euthanised - they just do not get how much our fur babies mean to us - that is their loss though Sans911 not to know the love and companionship that our fur babies bring us. You hold onto your own feelings and needs here and dismiss those that are hurtful - Jasper is the lucky one because he has you as his mum

Such a full on day for you all around - so much happening and so much to deal with but I do hope that you can bring your baby home soon and a little of the stress you have endured over the past couple of days will be eased a little. Sending both you and Jasper love and an extra hug for Mr A - and I am going to give Toby and Cat extra special hugs tonight because I am so grateful to have them in my life and will be channelling you and your fur babies whilst I do it

Well said @Zoe7

Thanks for keeping me in the update tags @Sans911

I admore your dedication to your pets. They really do mean a lot to us.
I still do miss my old corgi dog Mickey from time to time.

Hope that you can get to the bottom of it all over the next few days. Also you managed to balance it out with seeing your mum.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I think I almost held my breath waiting for the call from the vet during his surgery. And yes, I half expected he wouldn't make it either.

My 'friend' is still sending me messages saying I'm wrong to ask others for money (I set up a gofundme) and that's he's not worth it. Some part of me wonders would it have been easier to do so. My heart is super heavy with the weight of that. Hugs to your babies too

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

As far as I am concerned @Sans911 your friend has no friggin' idea - and quite frankly is not a true friend if they cannot support you in something so important to you! I would happily give to a gofundme for your little Jasper - what a great idea on your behalf. I seriously hope you receive enough to cover all expenses and that that takes a little pressure off of you. It is a cruel world we live in that requires money to care for those we love - but it is what it is. You do whatever you need to give Jasper the care and treatment he needs - he is your friend, your companion and at times your salvation - I know all those things only too well. They are more than pets to us - they are our family - and we do whatever we need to do to keep our family together. So ignore your misguided 'friend' and do not give another thought to whether you have done the right thing or not - because in my opinion you have done just what you needed to do for family

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I've just messaged my friend & told her that if she valued our friendship than she needs to respect my opinion and leave the topic alone. She is an overseas friend so I've not seen her in a long time nor am I likely to see her soon. Sometimes it's better to back down then argue over an opinion.

You're up late tonight. Are you getting what you need to get done?

@Zoe7

Thanks @MDT for your kind words. Animals do mean so much. My previous cats died just over 10 years ago & I still miss them very much. They were quite different to my current cats.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Total respect for the message you sent @Sans911

I have hit a wall here - can't do much else now as I can't conentrate. Will head to bed soon. Beyond tired but have a plan to get up early to get stuck into the work again. No doubt I will need a nap or 2 tomorrow but it has to be done. I have all the testing I did this week with the kids to go through, record and then put the kids into groups - so that will be the morning jobs. Then I will need to get my plan for the week done. I am working every day this week and we have parent-teacher interviews after school all week too so having it all done tomorrow is essential. Going to be a really full on week and I expect a very tiring one. Have psych Tuesday afternoon at 4.30 too - too much in one week!

🎉 for Jasper @Sans911 💜💐

Bit speechless over your misguided friend ..... GoFundMe was an awesome idea, and all those who understand exactly what a fur baby is can get right in there behind you and hello you manage through this situation ..... you go girl ❣️ You know what you need, and that friend ought to reserve their opinion imo ..... !!
