The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

i didnt know you were having your minor surgury yesterday @Sans911 are you going ok after that besides feeling dehydrated? mm very dissapointing with the nursing care. i hope the things that were suppose to be done but werent arent going to affect your health to much??

I dont really know what to say, there seems to be abit happening. alot comes out in a sigh.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Oh with everything else going on for me, and not talking to you much in the last few days, I've probably forgotten to mention it.

The stuff that wasn't done by the nurses didn't affect my health but could have. I went to the hospital Cafe and bought a sandwich and drink. If I didn't do that I might have fainted.

And some of the care was just lacked professionalism. This is the second (and same) procedure at this hospital and last time was worse. I can't go to another public hospital because this is the only public one my urologist uses.

A sigh is often a sign of frustration. I'm sorry things continue like this for you.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

im glad it hasnt affected your health but im sorry that you had to go and get things yourself esp since they are suppose to be the ones taking care of you during that time. mmm yes professionalism, some dont seem to have that @Sans911
i think i remember you saying youll need to keep having this procedure done every few months? i hope the next time your care will be better.

i am frustrated amongst other things. im really smothered being at home and since having to sell my car its made it alot worse. i didnt mention it before but besides actually having to sell the car cause it was going to be an expensive fix i needed to sell it because i needed to pay bills. i dont know how long itll be before i get another car now. pop is becoming very annoying and clingy and i know that it isnt his fault i can barely watch a tv episode now before he needs something or im disturbed cause hes talking or coughing or doing whatever. his presence is just exhausting and alot of the time i can feel my own energy being drained away. i feel awful for feeling this way.

i spoke with my nurse the other day and my other gp- well barely, it was more a walk in and walk out appointment. makes me question whether its really worth going to these now. she called up the specilist im needing to see cause i actually cant even locate this clinic but apparently they are ringing me sometime this month. the dr said theres a chance that there may need to be a loop excision or some sort of other treatments since the changes are progressing not getting better. i know what it means but at the same time i dont either and leaves me with quite a few questions. that is scaring me, i cant talk about it offline ether, i dont know what to do.

this month is also harder because i have 2 suicide attempt aniversaries . one is a second yr and one was a first yr.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not getting notifications this morning @outlander @Former-Member so sorry the delay in coming back to your post.

Aww hun, you're going through so much. I hear you say you feel awful the way you do about your pop, but I know too you care about him very much. It's a difficult place to be in for you. It seems his health is declining quickly now.

Are you on any Centrelink payments at all? Could they help with emergency payments?

The concerns & questions you have for your specialist can you write them down at all so you have them handy?

And with your previous suicide attempts lil Sis @outlander can you try to put them behind you? I understand it's not easy, but they have past. You're not that person you used to be or you are moving on from that. Don't give them much more than a fleeting thought. They are in your past, they can't be undone or changed.

Hugs and hugs lil Sis 💕 💕 💕 💕

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

There is quite abit happening sis and its hard @Sans911

I care very much about him yeah. He has good and bad days but when the days are bad they are really bad. Its hard having someones health constantly in your hands. I know you get that since your a nurse as well. Its actually making me question a career path. If i cant handle this then how am i suppose to handle working in a health profession which is what i want/ed to do. It seems i fail at so many things.

Ive already sold the car and started paying off bills. I am going for a loan soon which will be harder to start off with but once ive got alot out of the way ill be better off financially. Fingers crossed anyway.

Yeah ill write the questions down the the specialist. Id rather hear my options before i say got and excise whatever u want. They are going to investigate pcos and endo while im there as well.

Im worried about my dental op too. More questions popping up about it.

Its also hard watching my mother being supportivr of everyone but when i ask i get yelled at or door slammed in my face. All these fb about 'im here if you need to talk' memes (aimed at a few of her friends). I cant do much about it but it still hard.

Im trying my best to put my attempts behind me but it doesnt help that my SI is so high that alot of those thoughts are in the forefront and are really strong.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I can tell you now lil Sis @outlander that it's completely different looking after family day in day out as opposed to nursing someone you don't know. You may only see that patient once. Sometimes you make a big impact on them, sometimes they make a big impact on you. And when you do care for them for more than a day, beautiful bonds can form & it's so rewarding and special.

I hear you regarding the SI. And I'm sure it's feeding you a bunch of nasty negative thoughts. Those thoughts are lies, all lies. You are here for a reason. I need you and the world needs you. You are sensitive to others, you have a beautiful, caring heart, and a strong, intelligent mind. That's the TRUTH!

Its a pity your mother can't see what I and others see.

If I can help with any questions about your teeth, providing I'm not giving advice, I'll try to help.

Hugs and hugs lil Sis @outlander 💜 💜 💜 💜

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Aw dear your making me teary thank you. I need you too sis as do many others @Sans911 ❤❤❤

I guess you are right in that theres a difference between caring for family and caring for strangers. Maybe one day ill be good enough to be able to do something else besides this.

There is indeed alot of those negative thoughts. Im trying to just let them go but they dont want to go. They are very taunting. Maybe once the aniversaries have passed they might ease off abit again.

With the teeth i know they have been really good in explaining everything and answering all of my questions. I guess its more of what can i actually expect before during after etc.that uncertainty of it all and know actully knowing I dont know why my brains being so critical. People get teeth taken out all the time both with and without GA.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Glad you are ok after your surgery yesterday @Sans911 It is unfortunate that you didn't get the care that you deserved. Sounds like you were left to look after yourself. I hope you are feeling ok today and that your op shop shift goes ok. I will be around this afternoon and tonight.

Seems like you have a lot on your plate @outlander like normal. Sorry to hear about your pop. Sounds like he is needing more and more care lately. Something that perhaps you need some help with too. It is hard for just one person to cope and you need to look after yourself too. I hope your have been able to have a rest this afternoon.

Missing both my sisters, had an early night last night.

Thinking too of @Shaz51 @Appleblossom @eth and all who are passing through here. Hope you days have had some good moments in them

Hi @Snowie Hanging out over at the Saturday Soiree if you'd care to join us. All welcome there.

Sorry I've missed this thread for a couple of days.

@Sans911 I hope you're feeling better today.

@outlander sorry to hear all you have happening atm. Anniversaries are very hard, but they pass and they get easier over time - we learn to remember without re-living the experience.

Hi to you too @Former-Member
