The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlanderI just posted in the thread I use lil Sis.

How are you? I fell asleep last night before I could say goodnight. I was just starting to worry about you today, as I hadn't seen you around. I am proud that you took up the challenge last night to fee draw, and I am glad it helped you.

The other thing I was going to suggest was a Pamper Day for you and your sisters. So you all set up a 'mini salon' at home. You do the works- face mask, face massage for each other, pedicure, manicure, hair mask or treatment. It could be lots of fun. Maybe you could look at what you could use at home so it's cheaper. Avocado, oatmeal, olive oil...

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

i gathered youd fallen asleep, your usually pretty tired by that time. we will be closer in time as of midnight here too, daylight savings ends so easier to talk too.

i wasnt sure whether to come on or not. dont want to dampen the mood here esp considering the thoughts thats been around today. feeling too close to the edge. @Sans911 also been at the drs for hrs today.

yeh the drawing was something different to do, it was good. thank you for the suggestion too, i did ask them a while ago if they would be interested in that but they both said not really so didnt persue it. they might reconsider though.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

My dear lil Sis @outlander - you will never dampen my mood by being here. I have been looking out for you all day because I am genuinely concerned about you. If you need to talk about things, just talk. No matter my mood, you know I will listen to you. You are very important to me, and if I can be a willing ear, then that is better for you. The circumstances you are dealing with often make me feel sad, frustrated, angry or whatever but those are MY FEELINGS to own. They are not for you to feel guilty about.

How was your drs appointment?

I am deliberately making myself busy to get out of the house atm, and my house mate is avoiding me too. So don't worry, there's little chance of her bringing me down. I think the hardest time might be when she is arrested, and hopefully I won't be here to see it. If I am I will go for a walk. The police were just here tonight to get some more information off me, and I had to walk out of the house to the front to talk to them. They want more details of the transactions which I will try to obtain on Tuesday. They are keen to get the CCTV footage asap, so time is of the essence.

Just to let you know I am leaving in about 10mins. So I have time to read/respond to one more post

Howd bingo go? @Sans911

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlander - no wins at bingo 😞 but I sat next to a lovely older mother and daughter. The elderly mother was quite funny and chatty, so that was nice. I realised sadly that even though I bought the same number of games as a year or more ago, the concentration needed to keep up with the caller was much harder. This made me reflect on that I probably don't have the capacity to go back into a stressful work environment.

@outlander - remember not that no long ago I was in a much similar place to you, and sometimes I still wonder about what could have very easily been. I still have suicidal thoughts. Right now I still can't look too far ahead. I actually walked out of a physio session last week because he asked me about what were my goals in relation to returning to work. I nearly broke down, but held together enough to wait until he went to talk to his supervisor (he's a student physio) and left without them noticing. I've rung the supervisor and explained the situation as I didn't want him feeling bad.

I'm trying to lower my expectations about what I should be doing & where I should be going, and just let things be as they are. And it seems to be easier that way as often I'm more relaxed and accepting of things that are happening.

The house mate situation is actually not bothering me that much. I think it's just one more thing that I have to deal with and karma will take care of her. I done all the right things I can do to protect myself. And hopefully proper justice will be served.

I'll try to take some pictures tommorow, but one of the places we're going to is quite well known, do unfortunately can't take pics of that place. It's very interesting.

Well I have a few things to catch up with before sleep, so I'll catch up with you tommorow sometime. I've taken my meds and this is a late sleep for me.

Goodnight lil Sis🌼❤️🌼❤️🌼❤️🌼❤️🌼❤️🌼😴
