The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Lol yes i hate moving houses for that reason! @Sans911
Its good the new place isnt to far away either. Have you got help for the bigger things and getting more items done in more of a bulk lot rather than a few things here and there?

I brought a new washing machine ao i need to install that. I asked mum to help me load it up. My pop and i went to pick it up and his trolley completly broke into pieces and it lands straight on top of my foot ( hopefully i doesnt get any more bruising coming up tomorrow) and rehurt my hand so i cant move it on my own this time. Its suppose to be hot tomorrow but i want to get pops room cleaned up. Hes a storer too i dont even know where all that stuff he has has come from but i need to get it cleaned up as we have a pest controller coming in the coming weeks as we are getting alot of cockroaches and spiders! Turns out the 2 houses beside us done a spray recently so thats where they are all coming from.
Hopefully while thats happening itll give my brain a rest for abit.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Ouch @outlander for hand and foot.

Thanks to your neighbours for sending them your way. I've got a lot of ants at the moment coming in. They're making a beeline for the cat food, so I have to clean their bowls daily. And we have heaps of spiders too.

Does your pop get upset if you touch his things? A friend I shared with in London is a huge hoarder. She keeps unopened letters from over 10years ago! When we moved once I helped her pack, and got rid of quite a few. She never knew. Her bedroom always had things piled up in there. She wasn't unclean, just hoarding and untidy. I love her to bits, but glad I'm not living with her any more.

I've got a station wagon, so I can fit a few boxes in. I'm taking over mostly the breakables, but things that are too heavy for me will wait for the removal guys in 3weeks.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Yes ouch, more worries about my hand at this point as i can barely close it again so having to be very careful again. Very frustrating! Its been months since i done the injury.
Yes it is very annoying! And we tend to get wasps due to having a brick house. Not so much ants but im knocking on wood!! @Sans911 so we have a variety of unwelcome pests making our house theirs too!

No hes ok with me touching his things, hes just as lost as i am on where to start! He wants to get rid of things but doesnt know where to start and when i leave him to it things just get moved around from side to side so its about to get messy before it gets cleaner. Some of the things are also my nans and both he and I arent ready to remove them ao i will just have to make things tidy again and back in their places- like dvds on the shelves rather than the floor.
Geez that hoarding would drive me abit crazy. To much stuff in small areas feel suffcating to me so i try not to have things to crowded.
Are you a hoarder? Books and antiques arent included cause i have those too lol.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I wouldn't say I'm a hoarder, but I am a collecter who sometimes has more than is necessary. That is, books, magazines, knick knacks, stuff like that. But I'm better than I used to be. Mostly because I do more online and the travel mags I used to collect I can no longer afford.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Thats fair enough @Sans911 its so hard to downsize when theres things that are meaningful or bring about that joy too.

Do you think the new layout that you had planned for the new place will work out?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Unfortunately the way I planned things is proving to be a little difficult. I really wanted to take my hall cube organiser which I use a part bookcase, part display unit & a place for my keys. But it won't fit in the space I have, and will look out of place anywhere else. So it will have to be sold. I have seen a tall, narrow bookcase previously for sale on fb, so I'll keep an eye out for another.

And the way I want the bedroom mightn't fit either. I won't really know until I see how things fit when I've got them in.

Essentially, there's more to sell than I thought. And if I can't sell or give it away, where does it go?

It'll come right eventually.

How annoying @Sans911
But i know youll make things workout somehow and get it looking the way tou want even if it takes a little longer.
Hopefully whatever you need to give away or sell will go quickly too.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlander - I'm in bed lil Sis, but not quite asleep yet. I had a nap late afternoon so I'm a little more awake than usual. But I wouldn't mind going to sleep soon, otherwise I'll put my routine out of whack.

Goodnight my sweet, sweet sister. I hope that hand is a little less painful tommorow. Hugs and hugs ❤️ 💜 💙
