The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

@Teej

How did you get left of the list?

How are you doing today after your rough night? You didn't affect me by the way. I just felt pathetic in myself because it seemed like I wasn't able to help you. Maybe it's because I don't know you as well as F&H does.

Goodafternoon sis @Sans911

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I think i got left off because I was being a :pile_of_poo:😜😳😘 @Sans911.

And you did help more than you know. I wanted to scream and rave and rant last night. In the end I knew I couldn’t do anything stupid because I’d lose any credibility I had when I tried to help you get through next. Authenticity is pretty high in my values.

So long story long I only took one pill which is neither a harmful or helpful one (my psych hates me taking them but knows it’s the lesser of many evils) and I slept my rage off without making it worse. No alcohol. DBT win :face_with_rolling_eyes:.

So you see you helped way more than you could have known. 💜🤗

I'm so happy to hear from you hun @Snowie

I'm missing you big time, but trying to give you space to come back here. I miss the chats we had, supporting each other and watching bbt.

I'm kinda ok, but I'm sad that my mother is freezing me out of her life over a stupid fking holiday. I'm so torn between wanting to contact her and leaving well alone.

The weather is pretty much the same here. Hugs sweet sister 🤗

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

You are none of those things @Teej

You were not on the drop down list is why you were left off. We all have our faults and weaknesses.

I'm also trying to refrain my SH for you as well, but also for outlander and Snowie. I have a pretty good strategy that helps a lot. I try to schedule in something most days where I can't do harm otherwise I'll let people down that are expecting me. I blew it last Wednesday but with how my mother is treating me currently I'm neither surprised nor regretful.

We'll done you last night then. That must have taken some strength and resolve. I'm proud of you because the way it was going I thought you might give in. Hugs and hugs for you.

I told you before I'm getting to like you. And it's true, I like your spirit, your tenacity, your introspection, and your colour purple. Purple for healing our souls.

@Sans911I am missing you too. It seems we keep missing each other on here too! Its nice to speak to you in real time!

It must be hard with your mother in that situation. From what you have written she seems to be thinking a lot of herself. I guess you have to work out what is better for you and stick to that (as hard as that can be).

Hugs and hugs hun

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@Sans911 Thank you for your reply. In all honesty, I struggle with it a bit. It’s part of me wanting to do this therapy so much. Every time someone says something nice about me I run now. I know I’ve been doing lots of pull you, push you with people on the forum although for me it’s more pull you, then run. It’s not something I’m proud of and I so desperately don’t want to hurt anyone. It’s much of the reason I pull back from the forum and my outside world. Isolation is safe 😬. I get overwhelmed easily. I think this psychologist could help me work through this stuff so the thought of not having it now is really hard.

I have my own parent issues too which I know are different from yours but I’m happy to listen as well. Much of my dysfunction comes from childhood. For me it’s just a difficult mix of biology and a parenting style that didn’t suit. I know that lots of people would have thrived with my situation, ironically I’m the one who didn’t. Perhaps it wouldn’t have mattered who I had for parents either.

I’m really glad you are trying to refrain as well. I think that this is a positive thing to keep us safe. I actually was pretty close to the edge for a while there. I’d rang Catt (yes world record now 4 times in the last month I think). The person I got floundered and knows my history and struggled to help and I felt worse because it feels like they are all scared of me (because in the past I’ve followed through after talking to them). It’s hard when everyone is scared of supporting you. The forum is often the best place for me to have my freak outs because not everyone runs. So I didn’t turn to my laboratory and found the strength to get through. I hope you can get through your hard times too. I know they are different but much of the underlying stuff is the same.

Thesis over. I hope this isn’t too heavy. I’m going to take dog now for a walk and hope I can continue to put one foot in front of the other until Tuesday again when my next marathon assessment appointment happens.

Take good care of you 💜🤗

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

One part of me wants to ring my mother & tell her to stop being so childish and stupid. That it's not worth ruining our relationship over. But if I did that on anger, it would all come out wrong, and it would only serve to force her away further. I'm really confused, as I never saw this coming. She'll respond to my comments on fb, and she'll interact with MY friends on fb(which really makes me angry). If I let this continue, it will deteriorate our relationship to a point of no return. I've tried so, so hard to build a relationship of trust, respect and even fun, but it's mostly been me that's done the hard work. Yes, it's always about her. Her needs, her feelings, what is best for her.

How is your Sunday going?
