The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Yesterday was a big and shocking day for you @Sans911 it really makes me angry and upset that you were treated that way. some people really lack empathy for others.

Dont worry about the tears with your psychologist, I think they needed to come out and I think now he gets how hard it is for you. Your social worker does sound pretty good though even though what you were talking about was a really tough thing. I hope she/he showed that understanding towards you/ Your housemate really is so inconsiderate, im not surprised it irks you and really its her fault your in the housing situation that your in. it irks me too.

I hope that despite the difficulty of the situation you were able to work out some options that might suit you even though not completely ideal.

When will you be speaking to the real estate agency and heading to respite?

If you think you should take it further with centrelink and/or the disability service then go with your gut instinct. Do you what you think is best, theres no pressure to do anything unless you would like to

we've spoken about SH and the reasons behind it, I dont see this one as any different, but know that if you need to you can come onto here and we can help you too. Im more than happy to run through an exercise with you like you do for me and have been teaching me to do. Remember the sock trick too when you need to physically release those emotions too.

Im glad you managed abit of sleep, and im proud of you for keeping yourself safe with the medications despite needing to take them.

and your cats- they will forgive you, they will come back to you.

Im not sure if these words will really mean anything today, or tomorrow or whenever but I the main point is that I am hearing you and that you are worth every bit of support, help, care and understanding. I will always be here for you if/and whenever you need to talk/sit/cry/comfort or whatever else you might need including sitting at the bottom of the lake. Your support crew are right here for you in thick and thin. Big lil sis hugs

Really good to see you @Sans911 Was worried.

Hope the harmony day is good and you enjoyed @outlander's treat.

Your poem was very beautiful and put in words thoughts I have felt so often.

But I did not want to "like" it.

Go gently.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlander - it's been another difficult day, and your words are still relevant and have meaning. I know I can talk to you, Snowie, F & H or others, yet like you and many others I still struggle with. You know it's not about trust or whether you can 'handle it'. It's much like @Snowie has said & I have said in therapy. I feel all I ever do to moan, complain, create drama, whatever! I get that's not necessarily the case, but it still feels like it. And I'm sick of talking about it, as much I feel others are tired of it as well.

I have had to cope and survive by my own skills & wit from a very, very young age. Growing up a 'welfare' is kid is hard. You go through so many professionals that you have to repeat your story so many times. In the end you get tired of it, especially when things stay the same, nothing changes and you trust no one to be able to help. So you keep everything inside, and deny there is anything wrong. You get very adept at wearing a mask so in time it becomes a part of your identity.

The social worker yesterday was very nice, and very helpful. I like her. The house inspection went well today. I've made an appointment for Tuesday morning @ the real estate agency, and thankfully the woman I spoke is completely understanding, aware and supportive of the situation. All I've told my house mate is that the agency wants to talk to both of us about the lease or rent. However, while we're there we can sign the necessary documentation. I have to see my pyschologist & pdoc that afternoon and I'll head to respite after those appts.

The Harmony day talk was I inspirational, interesting and informative @Appleblossom. Then was tea/coffee and tasty food afterwards.

My car was playing up yesterday with my gears at times refusing to engage. It did the same thing today and as I left the talk the clutch stayed stuck to the floor. I was on a bend with a slight incline upwards, & there was a car behind me. So I managed to roll backwards, mount kerb onto grass, but the front stayed on the road right before the bend! When I called roadside assist it was going to be from 60 to 90 mins. This was the middle of the day, 37 degree heat and my car front barely a whisker from traffic. I was told to call the emergency number & ask for police and traffic management. I got a call from the police a few minutes later saying they could not attend & I must move the car myself! Yeah right! Upshot of it all I managed to get the clutch unstuck, use the back streets and hilly streets for coating. The mechanic was not far away, and I had a couple more sticks, but I got it there. I've since Sis 6 it had a hydraulic gear failure that's costibg me a bomb to fix.

I just need to have a nap, but I'll be back soon.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Another difficult day @Sans911 thats not all that great now is it.

Yeh I know about the repition of stories etc. ive done/said the same thing too. It sucks when things stay the same for so long that it just becomes a part of us and nothing new to share.

I know you had a really rough upbringing, I wish it was different for you but I guess in a way its made you the wonderful person you are.

Im really glad you have a good social worker, and that your house inspection went well too.

The real estate agent sounds understanding so I hope tuesday goes well for you, maybe itll wake your housemate up too. Shes got a bit of a shock coming I think as youve only been brief in what youve said to her about the meeting.

Sounds like the harmony day talk was well worth going to as well.

Oh shite! I really hope you dont have that happen again! How scary esp being on your own! Bloody lemon cars

will talk after you have a sleep

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@outlander I'm back lil Sis. Didn't sleep. Just laidthere. My foster sister and had a chat over the phone. We've been talking nearly every day; we normally text several times, but I've been so stressed that she's trying to support me as much as possible. She's helping me to pay for the car, and for I didn't argue about it.

@Snowie missing you sister💙💜💙💜

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Morning @Faith-and-Hope @Zoe7 @outlander @utopia @soul @Bunniekins @Bubbles3

Busy day today with 3 appts and no car. Missed my morning walk because it's a bit too far to walk & no bus at that time of morning. But I'm walking to GP instead. I have GP appt, then eye test and physio this afternoon. And pick up meds somewhere along the way.

I live in a good area of the city in terms of aceess to public transport. And I get concessional transport rate.

Missing you sister @Snowie
