The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

Been thinking about your post @CheerBear. Maybe its both being hurt and hurting people. I sometimes feel like I’m cursed in that people will be hurt by just being around me.

i sometimes don’t think if I’m in a good mood and say things impulsively. I still hate that I hurt eth on here the other week. I didn’t say anything mean but my post was so I’ll timed. It sometimes feels like my destiny now that if you are around me you’ll be hurt.

Thank you you for sharing about talking to your specials in your head. It helped to know it’s not just me. I am still friends with my friend but we hurt each other unintentionally so much still. It will never be what we had but we keep trying to find our way back every now and then. There is something that will always be there though that will be a barrier.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I hear you really hard on yourself @Teej. I think it's inevitable that we're going to hurt people and as someone kind and caring as you are, I get why that's something that stops you. I have also heard you say that anyone around you will be hurt too. I can't see it (how I see it doesn't matter, I know, but it's all I have!). I truly can't. But I know you feel it and I hope that changes for you one day.

As far as talking to people and not knowing what to talk about, I think of all kinds of things I enjoy chatting with you about from random funny goose moments, to plants and gardens, to past big things, to one day hope-to-dos, to stories about your boys and your life, to the weather. Your company is pretty fab.

I talk with and listen to special people in my head and heart always. And my cats. Not odd I think ☺ Sorry about your friend. That would sting lots.

Ps that was like replying to two posts in one there, one from a page ago @Teej. Random brain of mine.

Also, I think starting that discussion about personality and personality changes that we touched on the other week could be interesting and tie in nicely with this one maybe. I'll make that a mini goal in the next couple of days (depending on catt news) unless I see it magically appear before then.

Lol @CheerBear. I hope Catt do wave their magic wand and you get respite soon.

Truth bomb but only a small part of my Big Bang. My ex caused my Big Bang. There were victims and nearly all of them were my friends...over decades worth as I’d known him since primary school. It made my whole adult life a lie. It’s made me super scared of lots of things and anxious and fearful of hurting others because if they are my friends they could get hurt. There is other stuff but I’m scared of sharing it here too.

I think it definately goes to personality changes. Mine has spun 180 degrees.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Thanks @Teej. I need them to pretty soon.

Far out 😔 I'm so sorry. Without knowing, I get it and get the scared. It makes heaps of sense with your fear of hurting others too. Fear does bananas things to brains. Maybe fearing that one (your ex hurting others) has become one big "I will hurt others" over time. The little oopsies or inevitable hurt that comes from being the perfectly imperfect human you are (as we all are), is almost proving it to you because of that. I don't know. I could be way off and overtired and babbling (entirely possible!)

I liked the old me more, that's for sure.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Maybe @CheerBear. A lot happened over that time. I think that my psych has thrown this spanned in the works. I’ve been freaking out for about a year now that I don’t want to hurt anyone. Maybe you feel like this too but it feels so strange to walk this earth now and feel so disconnected to everything.

I know its your switch off time so time so I’ll leave you to wind down and I hope I haven’t bought anything up for you that has caused distress. 💜🤗

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

For what it's worth @Teej, you've only brought good to me in the time we've known each other and I really truly wish I could bottle some of the way I, and I'm sure so many here, feel about you, and give it to you.

I feel like I live on another planet sometimes. Every thing changed when it went bang. My world doesn't look the same or feel the same. I get glimpses of it sometimes and they feel great, but they fade and I almost don't want to have them anymore because it hurts when they are gone again (and that is depression for me because I know it's good to have them really). Hearing you with the disconnected strangeness.

And no distress ☺. It has been really nice chatting with you as always.

💗

Night Teej and all. @outlander and @Snowie I see you are around still. Snowie I have everything crossed you have some news tomorrow. And outlander I hope sleep or rest or some peace happens for you tonight.
