My Thai Discovery Journey

My Thai Discovery Journey

Hi All,

Two weeks ago I decided that I needed to step outside my comfort zone and change my scenery by heading over to North Thailand for a month. It’s not a completely new experience as I have been in this area before but this time I will be there for longer, will venture further afield and will travel alone.

I am excited by this journey and intend it to be one of self discovery as much as absorbing the culture of this beautiful and friendly part of the world. My daily Yoga sessions and a Meditation Workshop have prepared me to be at peace with myself and being in this new environment will further facilitate a sense of calm as well as enlightenment.

I invite you to share my journey. I intend this thread to also serve as a travel diary and will post some pics.

I have woken early and am thinking about the last minute things that need to be done. Tonight I will be sleeping on a plane (hopefully as it’s not the easiest way for me to get rest) and come morning, I will be in a different country.

This trip is meant to be one of simplicity. I am taking just a carryon bag and won’t be partaking in the usual touristy types of things. I won’t to live the life there and am open to whatever unfolds. I have booked the first couple of nights accommodation and then will play it by ear.

So come along and let the adventure begin.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

Hi Everyone - I’ve seen and appreciated your notifications and messages as well as the lovely flowers.

I have been concentrating on my recovery, getting somewhat frustrated but things are moving along.

Update - my daughter apologised via text message a few days after her “tantrum” We had a talk, cleared the air and things are much improved. I guess it’s been overwhelming for her too but effective communication is necessary in order to live amicably and without as much stress as possible. She is still keen to move out but I think also conflicted by the implications to herself. Oh well!

Therapy has been full on with visits to specialists twice every week as well as the three sessions I do by myself each day. I am still on prescription pain meds but now don’t have to wear my hand splint all the time. This puts added stress on my arm but it’s necessary to gain functional use. I can pick up a piece of paper and am noticing new things I can do most days.

It’s been a month now since the accident and I still need shower and dressing assistance. Energy levels are improving and I find I need fewer rests during the day. There are times when this whole experience seems unreal and I long to be able to use my hand and arm like I used to.

Wonder when I’ll be able to go back to Yoga. I asked the physio his prognosis yesterday and he said he’d be able to give me a ballpark figure if I had just had the fracture but with the nerve damage it’s a lot more complicated.

I got the dressing from my surgery wound changed last weekend. The scar looks fairly neat but there’s still a lot of bruising and swelling on my upper arm. My hand gets very puffy too.

Hopefully a month from now, I’ll be seeing a lot of improvement.

So good to hear from you @soul. Things sound really hard and slow and painful 🙁 It's great that maybe they're heading in the right direction though.
